Recently I discovered that the windshield heating wire rubber cover was cracked and one of them fell off. Only used the front windshield heater a few times. The rubber cover looks like it comes with the heating wire, so there is no way to buy it separately. Is there any solution?

I did not know that the windshield was heated! What's the reason behind a heated windshield when we have perfectly functional windshield defroster? I had to go out & look to see if I had those two connections (and I do). I had never noticed them before.

Both have the wire kinked up tight against the metal header panel. I suspect they will fail at some point with all that pressure on them. :(

Um…I'm not sure if it's for heating, but other than that I don't know what it's used for. Split and fell apart for no reason.

It's for the camera that handles adaptive cruise control, auto brights, emergency braking etc.

TO OP, If you're still under warranty, take it to a stealer... You can also just use a multimeter to verify continuity between the wire and the solder pad on the glass, if you have continuity then it's an eyesore but should still function. If not, then it will need to be re-soldered.

is it a heater just for the area around the camera? Is it safe to assume that it is only powered up when the rear window& mirror heat is on?

Yes, it's to defog the camera area.

I am not 100% sure the conditions for it, I don't have one on my Jeep to thoroughly test the operation times, but having dinked with it on other Jeeps (rentals, friends, etc) I think it might just always be on.

FYI the defrost buttons desoldering is a common issue for both front and back defrost on the Jeeps, so the same testing etc applies to the rear window defrost... I think they're using noclean solder or something similar that can't adapt well to the thermal cycling.

So…is there a parts number for the wire? Sooo ugly without the rubber cover on it

You're better off finding something from somewhere like McMaster-Karr (mcmaster.com) or 3d-printing something if you have access to one - because it's going to come from mopar as an entire assembly for all of the switches, sensors, etc in the windshield area and will go to somewhere under the dash. If you want to replace the entire wire going all the way, then @AllMoparParts.com is a great resource - looking through it looks like it's going to be 684705xxAA depending on your options, but they'll know.

If you can send me your VIN I will see if we can track down this small harness but theres no way the boot only will be available, You can of course remove it from the new harness.

That is interesting. For OTA updates or maybe the emergency vehicle notifications?

Huh. Now that's interesting. A tuned RF circuit for distance measuring on the ACC maybe?
