GVW?

I have a 2018 JLU Sport with 2.0T, LSD. GVW is supposed to be 4485. My spec sheet says 5400, damn near a thousand pounds over. Any ideas, good people?

Sounds like you are comparing curb weight with max laden weight.

Jeff, what spec sheet are you looking at? I dont see gvw on my window sticker. However, the difference between curb weight and gross weight could eadily hit 1000#.

I pulled the build sheet based on VIN. It clearly states GVW.

Yes. GVW = max laden weight = max rated weight of your vehicle when it's full of ~1000lb of humans and winches and cargo. Curb weight (the much lower value) is the weight of your Jeep with fluids.

Yeah, don't forget the very important word "rating". The GVWR is what the vehicle is rated for. Take it to a CAT scale and see what your vehicle weight is in its current configuration and subtract that from the GVWR. That's how much more you can load up your Jeep and stay in spec.

Thank you; I appreciate the explanations! I’ve never paid much attention to total-load ratings. I know they can be far exceeded with proper, safe driving. Had to do it many, many times over the years.

It makes sense that it has a half-ton payload rating.
