Hello all

Should be in Moab around the end of the month. Never been there.

Need suggestions on where to stay in an RV. We're in a 38 foot class A. I have not searched for a place at all yet. Was trying here first. Maybe from someone with first hand experience.

Hoping for a place where I can do as many trails as we can. Within the limits of my jeep of course. I'm sure it's big, may have to go to multiple places.

Any suggestions appreciated.

Thanks

Portal is at the north end of town, but yes you can get to all the trails. We have stayed there with our class A and the sites are very nice along with great showers and a pool. Most of the other RV parks are on the south end of town. It's not a big town so stay where you can and you will be fine with the trails, we just found Portal to be the nicest for a class a towing a toad looking for a nice level site with amenities.

I assume you need/want hook ups so this probably won’t work for you, but here is where we stayed with our Class C but we are pretty self contained with solar and 200amphr Lithium batteries and a diesel gen. Sand Flats Rec Area… very close to Fins & Things and Hell’s Revenge trailheads but still just a few miles from downtown.

I can stay off grid for 6 or 7 days but I think in Moab I want to be in a full hook up park. I like knowing the RV is semi safe. And after 8 to 10 hours in the jeep I just want to come home to cool RV, take a hot shower, and hot meal, then sleep in my king size bed and get up the next day prepared to do it again.

Thanks again for the info.

Hello all

I meet a fellow jeeper here in the RV park. He has a little older JK. He has a lot more experience than I do, besides just off roading he's done like 40 BOH trails, but never wheeling Moab.

After talking he told me they had hired a tour guide to run fins & things and hell's revenge. I had already considered this.

So I called the tour place and joined up and got a really good price. Even though I have never been to Moab, from my research I felt like it was going to be like no place I have been before and I am maybe not a beginner anymore, but I am not an expert either. And my jeep is only on a 2 1/2" lift with 33's, LSD in the rear and just a stock m186 front.

Not to mention my wife's anxiety.

Anyway, great decision. Truthfully I'm not sure I would have run either of these by myself. And the wife, forget it.

There is some pretty dangerous spots on hells revenge where they have two and three weekly mishaps, sometimes bad.

The tour guide Travis was great and helped in every way.

So, this was a blast, and jeeps are just unbelievable animals. Words cannot fully describe it. My jeep performed awesome. The LSD in the rear was flawless and the m186 had zero issues. I did almost every obstacle (that the wife didn't totally freak on)

There is some pretty serious inclines and the wildpeak AT3s were flawless. I was really worried about tires. There is of course a crap load of jeeps up here and the ones going off road, or most I see, have M/Ts. I almost bought new tires. Glad I trusted my gut instinct that told me my tires were fine.

Even going through big water and mud holes right at the base of a steep incline, having to also turn right at the start the tires and the jeep just climbed right up.

I was a truly amazing experience, and I learned and got to see first had what these animals are capable of.

There will be a video pretty soon. For now here's a few pic.s I giving full attention to driving so I didn't get to many pictures.

Where did you end up staying?

We've stayed at Portal twice (booked way in advance) but heard the KOA nearby is decent, although, dusty. We're trying to squeeze in another visit later this year when it starts cooling off.

We tried portal, but it was double the price. So we are at Spanish trails. It's a nice park. Some shade trees, pool, plenty of gravel and seems well kept.

Metal masher today. It lived up to its name.

Of course I did not do all the obstacles, I don't have enough jeep. I did do most everything and there was just one spot where we attached the tow rope and my friend Dave pulled a little and it walked right up. I know I could have made it if I had rock rails but I didn't want to slam my E Boards. (Worse than they already got slammed)

This is a long and pretty technical trail holy crap. We got on it around 9ish and we're back on pavement at 5:45. Besides the normal gear bring lots of water and and food.

This is the Friday after the 4th and I thought for sure there would be other people. But this trail did not appear to have had any recent traffic. No, new tire tracks, no older tire tracks anywhere. We also encountered absolutely no one, all day. At times we had to scout the trail to figure out where to go. Multiple gps apps. All were spotty.

The views are spectacular and we had a great time.

But, be prepared if you choose to do this trail.

We’ve stayed 2 times at the KOA and once at the Spanish Trail RV. Both were great for us. We have a 32’ coachman we tow our Jeep with. Both places were great

Spanish trails is nice. I have had no issues here in the last 6 days. They even allow people to store there trailers in the back and work on their jeeps. 3 people since we have been here have worked on the broken jeeps.

I tend to stay away from the KOAs. In my experience they are almost always higher priced.
