If you’ve ever held the front tow hooks, you’ll know they’re incredibly heavy and much larger than what pokes out the top of the bumper. I’d guess 10-15 lbs for both.
I’m about to get the aluminium version of the factory steel bumper to go along with the front tow loops made by @Maximus-3 (which are fantastic by the way). This got me thinking, couldn’t I just get rid of the factory hooks? Upon further inspection, they’re a critical part of the bumper to body attachment point. So, I’m wondering if these could be replaced by aluminium versions? I’d need to press in studs to hold the bumper on, but it seems like this could be done in aluminium and save a ton of weight.
I know this would be a lot of work, but I’d really like to reduce the weight off the front if possible. You could even lop off the hook and tap the portion under the bumper hole for added accessories like lights.
Anything I’m missing?
