I want to install a front camera, but the OEM setup is difficult to install and I had another idea….

Does anyone have any insight or experience with a camera and small screen setup that are wired together/attached from their manufacturer and could just be quickly installed in a rig without having to put too much effort in?
My buddy uses a Boyo VTC500DIY as his backup camera… but it’s a fisheye lens. This is the best Way to articulate the idea, though.

I would like to do the same. My thought, mount a small android tablet above the head unit, mount a camera, plug it in and go. The issue I ran into is finding a USB plug/adapter from the camera to the tablet. Maybe I'll dive in this winter, see if I can find that adapter. For reference, this is a 7" Kindle Fire, it sits low enough that it doesn't block my view. If I strike out I'll probably go the backup camera route.

I ended up getting a $39 backup camera on sale at Amazon. Normally about $50 I think.

here are the photos (you'll notice in the photos where the screen is on, the screen is attached to the dash red trim piece. Somebody let me know this is where the airbags deploy from, so I moved it to the second pi

cture- where the screen is off- and just attached via a zip tie to the grab handle

I don't plan on having this thing plugged in at all times... just when I'm on the trail. I can remove the screen when I need to, which is how I prefer it.

I installed the power cable through the firewall plug- which I drilled a hole in- on the drivers side. I ran the cable through it, and then replaced the cap. I then filled hole with flex putty, or whatever it's called by the flex tape people. This way I don't have cold air coming in that little hole the whole time, but I can also drill into it again if ever I need to.

Yeah, the airbag is right behind that dash, there are pics on here somewhere. I might go this route too, keep it simple. Same here, I'll only use it offroading.
