After finishing up the installation of my @Metalcloak Undercloak system early last week, we loaded up the Willys and headed east to Rapid City, SD to visit Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Memorial, Custer State Park, and Devil's Tower.
Traveling at slightly higher than posted limits, the Jeep handled really well, and, surprisingly, the mileage was nearly the same as my trip to the Silver Valley, ID, Jeep Jamboree last summer and our trip fall '23 to Yellowstone NP.
Overall average was 17.7 mpg. Mileage noticeably dropped when driving over 70~75. Very little difference between 75 and 83. When there was construction traffic and we slowed down to about 65, it went up quite a bit. The sweet spot on my Wrangler seems to be about 65 to 68 mph.
As we were being tourists on this trip, I had only one opportunity to get off pavement - of course hit a few puddles of stick red mud. SWMBO insisted I hit a self-serve car wash so she could get in/out without messing up her clothes.
The additional apx 200 # with the full armor system and front/rear differential skids didn't seem to have a significant impact on mileage.
Heading to Tillamook Forest for the Jeep Jamboree for next week. Looking forward to breaking in the new skids!
