They have been misconstrued in movies as "silencers" however are "suppressors" which drop the db in the 40-60 range. A rim fire suppressor with sub sonic ammo will be quiet... an air gun is louder. You really will hear the action of the weapon and the impact of the round... If you move up to a 9mm you will still have quite a bit of noise... the device makes the weapon shootable without hearing protection but by no means silent.

Speaking of quiet economical plinkers, here are a few .22s, some bolt, some lever, and some Semiautos.

Gotta keep this thread goin'.
Bought a roll of peel & stick 12v LED strips and put a row down the left and right of the door inside the cabinet, and a strip going front to back on the "ceiling". Used some speaker wire and ran the lead up through a hole in the top to a 9V battery clip. I'll put a switch on it some day, but for now I'll just plug the battery in when I need it and hope I remember to remove it when closing the door. (the 9v is enough to power the LED's.)

I think it will be kind of handy being able to put the rifles back in the cabinet w/o wacking a scope in the back of the closet...

Hopefully in a few weeks I’ll have all my parts in to start on my 224 Valkyrie build. Going with a White Oaks 24” barrel, JP Enterprises 17.25” handguard, Geissele trigger, Wyoming Arms billett upper and lower matt sand receivers & Luth-AR stock. Not sure which scope I’ll be putting on it. This time think I may go with Nightforce or Nikon, maybe even another Vortex. Should look something like my 5.56 when I’m done.

Please keep us posted of your build. Sounds like it is going to be a nice one.
I had wanted to try a long barrel for a while, so last year I built an inexpensive upper with a 24" 223 Wylde AR-Stoner, not thinking we'd use it very often. I'd guess between my boy and I, we put at least 3X as many rounds through it than the 16" uppers.
