Hi y’all,
I won the exoshield giveaway a few weeks ago. It is now in use. My wife (Karin) and I installed it two weeks ago. We did an ok job, not great but not bad either. We watched the YouTube install video a few times to make sure we got it right. The windshield was scrubbed at least four times. The hard part was when we flipped over the film to peel the backing. The girl in the video must have practiced the procedure. We were much more awkward at it. The cowl lights didn’t help either as the wire kept getting in the way.
My big mistake was doing it outside. The garage doesn’t have the elbow room or lighting so Tank was pulled out in the drive way.
The sun kept drying the slip solution, which made the film stick prematurely. I thought I really screwed up because the spots didn’t fade right away. The spots appeared similar to pulling off duct tape where some adhesive is left behind. After we were done, the expectation was that the exoshield would have to be removed. Karin talked me into letting it set. The spots were visible the next day. And a little less the day after.
One week in and the windshield was looking acceptable. The adhesive spots were gone. A few, maybe 4, tiny dots of trash showed up in the adhesive. Kinda like fisheyes in paint.
Two weeks and I mostly forgot about the exoshield. The fisheyes are smaller, hardly perceivable. No more adhesive spots. It was raining so maybe that is why I didn‘t pick up on the fisheyes as much. The wipers glided smoothly, no chatter. I didn’t replace them with the install either.
All in all I’m happy with the Exoshield. Not had a rock flung at it yet, but I feel the windshield is better protected now. Thank you to Exoshield, the film and tools are excellent products. The only improvement would be to my lame ass install job. More specifically a better install environment.
