Okay, so, here's a thought - perhaps it would make sense to ask those that post here, pro or con, if they've ever actually driven an EV.

I'm suggesting it because once you do, MANY of your kneejerk replies and post will be, ummm, well, less knee-jerky.

Won't cure or 100% change minds but man, these things are SOOOO much fun to drive!!

I mean, you all can see how this discussion is so tilted until you drive one. I was leaning toward EV but not sure I cared till I drove one. Then, I rented on for a week when I need a vehicle out of state. That did it for me. The cost, fun, ease of use, SPEED, everything, what a blast.

REMEMBER, none of that lessens the very real issues of cold and range and such - none. BUT, once you do, you begin to think '...well, I can make this work, where I live, my conditions, I can see a clear fit.'.

I'd be VERY curious to know if some of the most vehemently opposed to EVs on this thread have ever driven an EV.

Is that reasonable or no???

I'm not talking in general, I'm just referring to the Chicago dozen making news

As for limping to a gas station, you can just call a buddy to bring a bucket of gas.
Meet a bucket of electrons:

30 min's should get you about 2.5 miles, something like that.

I'll be you've got two of these in your garage and probably don't associate with the riff-raff that don't have a couple gennys lying around....

EVs are fun to drive, my 4xe is the best Wrangler I've ever owned.

But I'm looking for a very less complex EV next time, also one without a big screen.

I'm all on board if someone can take a JL and make it a simple 200 mile range EV, especially a 2 door JL.

Come on, come on, come on - screaming in bold doesn't make it correct. That headline seems to be the only thing one side reads in that entire story. Open another adult beverage, settle into your favorite Lazy-Boy and read the entire post, down at the bottom it says this:

"Expenses related to collision and damage, primarily associated with EVs, remained high in the quarter," Hertz said in a regulatory filing on Thursday.
The company, which had earlier planned to order 100,000 Tesla vehicles by 2022 end and 65,000 units from Polestar over five years, said it would focus on improving profitability for the rest of its EV fleet.

German rental car company Sixt said in December it had not purchased Tesla vehicles since 2022 and was selling its fleet of Teslas "as part of our regular de-fleeting process".
It still plans to offer a range of electrified vehicles and "stick to our goal to electrify 70-90 percent of our rental fleet in Europe by 2030", it said on Thursday.

They turned around and bought MORE Bolts and Polestars, not cause they love them, they are just cheaper to rent and maintain.

NOWHERE does it say that Hertz or Sixt (or any other rental co.) is not continuing to buy and rent EVs - nowhere. The most interesting thing it does say is it's giving pause to the market as it relates to fleet purchases.

Tesla's are not cheap to fix for many reasons, not the least of which is a lot of the peripheral important parts are right on the edges of the car - sensors, small radiators, cameras, stuff. Small fender benders are not easy to just slap back together.

Once again, bring this back to me, because after all, isn't that what's truly impotent here, I've had 6 modern Land Cruisers. All killed by my sons or my good and kind Ex. With the exception of one of them, all the repairs were small to me but EVERY one was 'totaled' by the insurance company because they are just too damn expensive to fix. I HATE THIS about them but that's where we are in all modern cars.
All of your little points beyond the headline are PR damage control 101 from the rental car companies. They are dumping EV’s and nowhere does it say that they will continue to buy more or are buying more. Hertz says they are focusing on improving profitability of their existing fleet and Sixt said they are still planning to stick to their goal by 2030.

FYI: all they do is fleet purchases and you yourself wrote that they are pausing fleet purchases, NOT buying more.

Semi unrelated side question: Are you every not mean and insulting if you don't like something?

EVs are not practical for the majority of people for various reasons.

Banning gas cars and like in Canada penalizing gas cars, to force people out of them is utter BS, in some states it looks like they are going nutty like in Canada with the anti gas car nonsense, one can only hope Americans hold out, because once Americans give in, the rest of the world is screwed.

The government should not be pumping billions of poor tax payers money into this scheme, worse paying rich people to buy EVs, and even worse paying rich people to buy ? like Rivans and Lightning, and even worse paying people thousands to buy gas guzzlers like the 4xe.

I've driven a BMWi3, a Model3 long range and a polestar. No, I still don't like them. Too many reasons to list.

Remember fun isn't equal to practically and ease of use.

On the contrary, I worked with two fleets of EV’s in Illinois and Minnesota. My experience with these fleets is much more than “ these things are SOOOO much fun to drive!!” (Yes, this is an insult)

Where have I been mean and insulting to you previously? I pointed out how the article you posted was written : Political double speak. I only mentioned you in the context of you posting it.

I will say this. You trying to tell others that they don’t know what they are talking about or can‘t have a different opinion because they haven’t driven an EV is a bullshit attempt to claim authority on the subject. It is insulting to everyone here.

Your level of experience, mine, or anyone else’s has no bearing on the pros or cons of EV’s.

You speak as if you're running a coal burning JEEP but you're half on board the EV train with the 4Xe you're driving.?
Do you have lots of Exxon stock? Let the market decide...
Oil companies and the owners of them have gotten more tax breaks than any other industry known to man.
