I’m hoping you guys can clear up some confusion I have about the eTorque 3.6.

I’m still waiting on my 2022 Rubicon to show up, but when I ordered it I got it with the Xtreme Recon package. As a result, I had no choice but to accept the 3.6 eTorque engine. OK, fine by me.

However, I also ordered the trailer tow & HD electrical package. This package states that it comes with a 700 amp battery and 240 amp alternator.

So my questions:

1. I thought that the eTorque did away with the alternator and replaced it with a belt-driven generator. Is this reference to the 240-amp alternator in the tow package just not applicable in eTorque cases?

2. I was planning to wire up the ARB dual compressor, REDARC BCDC1225D, and Odyssey PC1100 auxiliary battery in my rear cargo cubby under the floor using American Adventure Labs’ bracket & remote setup with power from the engine’s 12v battery. Does the eTorque setup complicate or change my wiring approach here in any way?

Thanks guys.

1: Yes, eTorque replaces the traditional alternator with a belt driven generator. Also, the etorque equipped Jeeps come standard with the higher Amp main battery. I'm not sure if us etorque owners with the tow and HD elec package get charged for those items that are already in place or we get the tow package remnants at a reduced price.

2: I have an ARB twin compressor wired to the main 12v battery without issue. You'll be good to go on that front.

Price for the tow package is the same with the 3.6 eTorque, no discount. Pretty much the same as the XR package on a 392, the 392 has the HD axles and a couple other things but the price doesn't change.

Slim, With your DC-DC charger your compressor will work much better regardless of generator output or battery size. This is because the aftermarket charger will first of all top off the Aux battery to 100%, then will provide 25 amps to the aux battery while the engine is running. Thus the compressor will perform as advertised rather than operate at reduced DC power controlled by the ECU reduced SOC. The etorque IMO will not crate any issues.
Using a DC-DC charger is an effective , but expensive way to get full power to an aux battery.
Thanks Paul. You raise a couple points that caught my eye.

It sounds like you're suggesting that the ARB compressor could be powered from my Odyssey PC1100 battery I'm planning to install in the back, right? I actually bought this battery with the intention to power a to-be-installed Dometic fridge and a fuse block for other down-the-road accessories in the back, and I was planning to power the ARB directly from the main 12v battery up front. Should I reconsider? I'm still new at learning the ins & outs of setting up auxiliary power to run accessories in the Jeep so I'm totally open to alternatives.

Regarding your last point about the DC-DC charger, what other solutions would you suggest to get power to an auxiliary battery if not something like a REDARC?

Thanks!

I am not sure why the extra battery is needed. I run an ARB dual compressor and refrigerator off the OEM front battery without a problem. Whenever you run the compressor you should have the Jeep engine on anyway. When camping, I take a Renogy 100 watt solar suitcase with me and it keeps the battery fully charged for as long as needed.

I guess my thinking is that I don't want to take the chance of inadvertently draining my main battery by accident with my fridge or other electronics in the back, plus the possibility that while I'm out camping I may not have great sunlight at times to make use of solar.

Honestly, I've seen so many different opinions on powering accessories (dual battery setup, auxiliary battery, Jackery, etc.) at this point that just when I think I've settled on my plan I learn something new from somebody else. :headbang:
