I own a 2019 Jeep JL Sahara that was built end of April and has the 7 inch with UConnect 4. Today I was driving with my iPhone plugged in using CarPlay when I received several consecutive beeps. The screen then went blank and it seemed like the electronics related to the display crashed. It came back on a few minutes later. Any updates with Jeep for a resolution?

Thanks for the info...I figured that with the start up.... just can’t figure when shutting it off sometimes..
If you’re using an iPhone you need to unlock it before you get in. Before you start it. Before you put it in gear. That’ll fix 99% of your problems.

Great, I wasn't sure if that is the way to go. Thank you, I will try that.

You're welcome.

Also, if it does freeze you out again, you just need to turn off your ignition and open the driver’s door. That’ll reset everything. Whoever told you to disconnect the battery must’ve done that on April 1st.

One more thing to know, even if you’re not using USB for CarPlay, your Bluetooth connection will try to access your iPhone and cause the same freezes. Just make sure you unlock before getting in.

I’ve had my UConnect freeze up 4 times, and the ONLY way to fix the issue was to pull the fuse.

That hasn't been my experience but if that's what you've had to do it might be something else going on with your radio. You might try switching to AM if that happens again to see if that does the trick.

Keep in mind, when it is locked, your iPhone thinks it is being hacked by uConnect . For whatever reason, a security handshake needs to be fixed, until then it is causing the radio to seize up.

Hopefully, IOS 13 will address it, or a uConnect update will in the future.

When it happened, the entire UConnect was locked up. Touchscreen didn’t work, physical volume knob didn’t change volume, etc. it happened with Phone connected to CarPlay and not connected as well. Happened in several versions of iOS with 2 different iPhone models. Opened a case with Jeep, they had dealer replace the entire radio and it still happened. They are stumped until I can take it to a dealer while the problem is occurring. Only started after the UConnect update last summer. I haven’t installed the May 2019 update yet.

UConnect = UN Connect ED. amazed in todays technology that they are still using such an outdated system.
The amazing part about it is they have had the same issued for over 12 years but everyone at FCA, Dealers, Jeep Wave all say "I've never heard of these problems".

Hi MassJeepGuy,
If this continues to happen and you decide to have your dealer address this, please send our team a private message. We would be happy to get you and your dealer connected with a case specialist to aid in this process!

I checked yes. But the only issue I've had was loosing the off road Pages in February. But JeepCares was able to have an over the air update done to restore them.

2018 JLUS has had its radio replaced twice now. 8.4” and bought in September ‘18.

Each time, the radio would freeze up and all controls became useless. Turning off the ignition and opening the door often did nothing.

Each time, radios were replaced with refurbished ones (which I can only presume means it’s inevitable to happen again) which has been the most frustrating part. I didn’t drop 50K to have a refurbished part put into my vehicle. Also the hoops I’ve had to jump through to get my XM trial transferred to the replacement radio, headache.

I understand the radios are expensive, and I’ve seen the blame shift from updates, to me, to Apple CarPlay to bad wiring.
It would freeze after updates, freeze with my phone connected and disconnected, and they’d the ones who did wiring!

<end rant>

Radio has been replaced now for 2-3 weeks and knock on wood no issues, so I’m back to being happy

The trick, I believe, is to not shift into gear until the system is fully booted. A quick takeoff seemed to cause these issues for me. Annoying...
Agree.

I’ve had the issue where the radio seems to operate at half the normal volume a few times now. I have a 2018 JLU Sahara with infotainment. I think it’s a boot time issue where I get in, start up, and immediate throw it in reverse to back out of the garage. I think maybe this issue is related to not giving the system enough time to fully initialize before forcing another process (backup camera) to execute. Been running doors off for a few weeks now. The issue clears up after parking it for a while—not sure how long, but over an hour although I’m not keeping track. One would think that the coders at FCA could debug this and get a fix out.

Edit: this is practically repeatable. I was even able to make it happen with the top/doors off my wife’s 2018 JL, same build as mine. With top/doors off, put it in reverse immediately after starting it, without waiting for the infotainment to fully initialize, you’ll induce the low volume issue.

Good to know, it always seems to happen when I am backing out of the garage and then no radio for a couple of hours
