One of the cool features about the Pentastar (Ward's Best Engines multi-year winner) is that it uses a dual-stage oil pump. The other day while cruising down the highway at 70 MPH with a trailer in tow, I decided to play with it a bit. I switched over to the oil pressure display on the dash. What I noticed is that 3,000 RPM seemed to be the threshold between low and high speed. Below 3,000 RPM it would go down to low speed and run at around 40 PSI. As soon as the trans. downshifted and kicked the tach needle above 3,000 RPM the pump would go into high speed and provide 80-81 PSI.
Very nice feature for efficiency while still providing good protection while towing. Nice.
