I’m curious as to how many people take the doors off.

In Los Angeles, it’s a rare thing to see.

Maybe debunk the myth, but I have been told once the doors come off the leaks, rust, wind noise, etc start happening.

Any truth? Assuming you don' scratch the paint.

I had the doors, and top off all weekend here in Ohio. Went out hauling firewood all day yesterday. 34 deg out. The coldest I have ever rode was 17 deg 15 min ride to work. That was a cold trip. My glasses got so cold that it hurt my face.

Not in my experience with 5 JK/JKU Wranglers, all with the doors off, no leaky roofs (other than when misaligned closing in a hurry a coupla times), no added wind noise or rust. Just be careful & deliberate when you do it, and it helps to have... help (and a plan) so you don’t bang stuff, etc.

The one point of significant wear, already gets worn with just regular use, the hinge liners wear a little quicker when you remove/replace the doors. I have them replaced every 2 yrs anyways because they fall apart just from opening/closing doors. I wish they were made out of teflon+plastic to resist wear (you can get cheap plastic ones from the aftermarket), even for people who don’t remove the doors.

That's good to hear.

BTW, what are the legalities of driving door less in Alberta? I'm guessing we'd have to install some temporary side mirrors but is that it?

My dream is to drive the Columbia Icefields parkway without any doors or roof!

go to Kikbaxoffroad.com He sells mirrors you put right in your hinges, the mirrors have footpegs and they are awesome. I doubt he has them yet for the JL, but if he doesn't I bet he will have them soon. Great investment if you are going doorless, and it helps small business

You just need the driver side mirror. Technically you could go without mirrors as the requirement is ‘sufficient to see XYZ portion of the road’, but as the production requirement is a single side mirror unless single point coverage can be proven (again options differ based on coverage) having a driver side mirror reduces the time consuming discussions with RCMP.

You can get mirrors that have integrated arms that just slide-in and bolt into place in the hinge hole now vacated with the doors removed. I added a cheap plastic one from Princess auto that was meant for bicycles that just clamps on, but it is yellow and $5 so got it.

I also have blind spot mirrors glued to the air vents on both side, and they work great to see down the side of the Wrangler... especially to watch the baseball cap that you forgot was under the rear seat go flying out on the Trans Can in the middle of traffic outside Canmore. :swear:

The JL vents look like they might even fit the bigger blind spot mirrors the next size up, so even a bit more coverage. Technically that’s all that’s needed really as they are not required to extend outside the vehicle, just have a view from centre rear 50m back and outwards, which these do, especially as you move your head.

These aren’t my pics, although I did post my stick-ons in Aventus’ old mirror thread last year, but this gives you an idea what I’m talking about.

Thanks for the great info! It'll be a new and interesting experience driving without doors.

I'll have to make sure I don't leave any food in the car while parked at a trailhead or I may find bear prints all over the interior. Haha!

It’s so much fun, especially in the parks.

Funny thing is that’s a good policy even with a soft top, as they likely do more damage trying to get into the soft-top. I recommend a good sealing cooler if your carrying any food. Yeti are great but expensive.

A bungee web from Canadian Tire for $20 keeps everything in place in the very back with the roof & doors off, and keeps sticky fingers from poking around, especially if you put everything under a fleece throw under the bungee.

It seems like the legality is an issue in some states here in the US - I'm in NJ and it seems it's legal provided you have some kind of sideview mirrors. Unless I missed something - Since the mirrors are actually mounted to the doors on the wrangler - I'd guess you'd have to rig something up if you were planning on just driving "around town" - locally - like that long term or whatever.

It's a shame, because I love riding my motorcycle in warmer weather and having the doors off on my future wrangler for regular driving would be kinda cool as I'm getting to a point where I may not be riding forever. Pushing the big five oh in a few months :surprised::surprised::surprised:

The past week almost daily. Put on for the 40deg mornings and pull off around lunch time in mid 70's. I can't wait for the soft doors to make the change that much easier.
