Pickup some super-strut from the electrical aisle at Lowe’s or Home depot . Hoist with a t-bar laying on top of the hardtop ratchet straps through the back window and sides. Then store on struts hanging from chains. Manual brake winch to raise and lower ...

This is my set up, it ran me just over $120 from Home Depot.
The pulleys set up this way gives 2:1 mechanical advantage (cuts your weight in half needed to pull down)
Super easy, not heavy
No crank or winch needed
Anchored into steel ceiling joists with I-Bolts
I just used husky ratchet straps to catch the hard-top itself, they're around $5 each
I used 550 paracord which was $0.09/ft if I remember
Hooks attached to the pulleys grab into the hooks from the ratchet straps

Its a 1 man show to put it up into the ceiling the only problem I found was the pulleys wanted to rise one side at a time so I was tying it off to the cleat and going to the other side to run the pulleys up about a foot or so at a time... but all in all works great

I use a top lift I bought back in 2010 for my jk. It’s super simple, uses a come along, just 4-5 cranks and it’s up. My garage is full so I had to put it in the wood shop. So when someone orders a cabinet or bookcase, sometimes there’s delays for topless weekends....:)

Got this idea from someone on this forum. Can easily take off and put on by myself. Leftover wood from previous owner of my house so didn't cost anything

I always had them on my JK's and even found them for my JL. Problem is those t-torx bolts are still time consuming to remove. A pain to remove in my opinion.

With that said, I purchased (other's here have too) purchased a little hand held, battery powered 3/8" ratchet handle to quickly (geeeez, I mean quickly) remove or reinstall the factory torx bolts with. Great little tool to have...

I got this one:
Milwaukee 2457-20 M12 Cordless 3/8" Sub-Compact 35 ft-Lbs 250 RPM Ratchet w/ Variable Speed Trigger

If you want those t-torx aftermarket bolts, do be careful which you order because many here have reported that they got t-torx bolts that would not work with the JLU. Some were too long, etc.
I found this on Amazon for around $83. Also found one with a lithium ion battery for $89 or so. (The $83 version says, I think, sub compact). Do you still like yours? Do you recommend it over the more expensive, lithium ion version? Can you use normal sockets with your version or do I have to buy impact sockets? Thanks.

Holy revived thread Batman...

I'm confused. I thought Jeeps had soft tops? Does Jeep make a 4Runner now?

@Gmanjeeper

I have had the Milwaukee 2457-20 M12 Cordless 3/8" Lithium-Ion Ratchet for 5 yrs.+. I use Milwaukee 48-11-2401 Genuine M12 RED LITHIUM 12 Volt 1.5 Amp batteries in mine. I use regular 3/8" sockets.

I use it quite often for various tasks. Works well.

Thanks. Amazon has it as a kit, which I think includes one battery and a charger. They also have the newer “high speed” version as a kit , with two batteries and a charger, for a little less than $60 more. I will probably not use it very frequently, so I am leaning towards buying the less expensive kit, although having two batteries might be nice.

Sadly I've yet to go naked in my JL, no garage and no one to help me remove hardtop, since I live far from my friends.
When I had the JK, I had friends, neighbors, and roommates to choose from.
2 was doable, but 3 or 4 was way easier haha!

My JL is too tall for a garage, so I'm considering those hardtop lifts.

I went with the kit that included the Milwaukee 2457-20 M12 and one Milwaukee 48-11-2401 Genuine M12 RED LITHIUM 12 Volt 1.5 Amp battery.

I also purchased an additional Milwaukee 48-11-2401 Genuine M12 RED LITHIUM 12 Volt 1.5 Amp battery.

Having a 2nd charged battery is a plus.

When/if you do purchase go here and look around. You might want to buy battery holders, a charger mount or whatever.

I also purchased one of these which I am happy with. It uses the same battery as the Milwaukee 2457-20 M12..

I use a cpl of my teenage sons friends. The jk hard top was way more sturdy and heavier I find compared to the jl so be very careful and have a person just making sure rear glass is shut if you plan on using an upright stand like I do. Again jl hard top flexes a lot more
