Is it just people not knowing how to use the system or do the ordering parameters between dealerships actually vary?

I have sent a build quote requests to 16 dealers in the Midwest.

After receiving 7 back thus far,
- 2 said they can not add the black tube steps to the build order (the other 5 had no problem)
- 1 said they are forced to add the all weather mats due to one of my other included options (the other 6 have not had this stipulation)

It is not a huge deal on these things, just adds a bit to my calculations to use the right invoice and MSRP numbers to compare the quotes apples to apples.

BUT why are these different?

Agreed, and very possible it is all BS.

BUT

I was just on the phone with Tyson Motors in Chicago, and he was getting real confused trying to add the 24L package for the Altitude with me on the phone. That issue was also resulted in him being not able to add the steps.

In the end, he figured out what he was doing wrong and got both the Altitude package and the steps added after some frustrations on his side. So it may be user error with trims and package codes.

Jeep doesn't make it easy with 3 trims, 3 "special edition" packages (1 of which can be on 2 of the trims), and then the pricing changes of all the options when adding those "special edition" packages.

Dealerships are truly amazing places. You literally have to know about maybe a half dozen vehicles super well. Most everyone on this forum knows more about the tangled than just about any salesperson.

Go into a dealership and ask about the diesel. Or the PHEV. Most will have no clue what you’re talking about.

All dealerships are the same. Test drive a ram limited. Opened the door and I was like where are the power running boards. Dude says this one didn’t have that option. Went into vehicle setting and unlocked them. Said there. Fixed that for ya and it’s standard on this trim. He also had no idea what the crash scores were or that the 2020 had an altered headlight to get the IIHS top safety pick plus.

Wife bought an RDX. they tried to push her into the lower trim. She said she likes the HUD and auto tailgate with the advanced. Dude says sorry missy there’s no foot sensor for the tailgate available. She asked for the keys to the advanced out front, walked out, waved her foot, it opened, walked in, and handed him the keys.

Few of them know anything about what they are selling. They memorize one or two “wow” features then have no clue.

:LOL::LOL::LOL:

We did the exact same thing last year when buying my wife's Pacifica to a model in their showroom!

This is the 2nd time that I have done so much research on a vehicle that I clearly know much more than nearly every salesmen I meet. It is annoying but I prefer it that way over the reverse, especially when spending this much money.

I am accustom to knowing more about TVs than any of the BestBuy college kid, but didn't realize it was the same in the automotive industry.

It’s awful and sad. Literally that is your job and you painfully suck at it. If this whole doctoring thing doesn’t work out I at least know I can be a car salesman.

Jeeps lots of jeeps
It can be a combination of user error and FCA restrictions on the dealership.

I have experienced both of these issues. User error is semi common but so is FCA being a hassle.

One dealership may be able to order something with no problem while one down the street is not permitted to by the system. I have seen this first hand in person. I have actually used the system myself as well.
