It's worth wondering if there's a opportunity for those folks who could be convinced to sell their Wranglers to the buyers who are desperate for a given powertrain configuration, but are now unable to place a factory order for a thus-far indeterminate period of time.

As should be plain to all and sundry, consumers are willing to pay a premium for instant satisfaction, in lieu of waiting for the dust to settle. We saw this during the height of the virus's effect on the market when dealers reported fielding phone calls from folks who were placing deposits on Wranglers, any Wranglers, that were still on the truck and inbound to the lots. Tangentially, how many of us took advantage of inflated valuations from Carvana and Vroom, and held our hands out for the check?

We're seeing something very similar to the aforementioned, right now -- thus the title of the thread -- as evidenced by several active threads full of anxiety and speculation. Example, example, example.

Might this be a mini sellers' market?

Maybe but I doubt it. I think we'd have seen it already with gassers in CARB states if it was going to be serious. Plus it's the 2.0 that's limited and from what I've seen on the forum, those that really care about the engine tend to want the 3.6. Not all, but the majority.

Where I'm seeing the complaints in those posts is not that the 2.0L is not purchasable, but rather if you want a gasser automatic you have to get the 3.6 and pay the premium for both the engine and trans, they'd be fine getting the 3.6 if they weren't upcharged for it.

I really don't think there are that many people that care about the V6+auto combo. Looking at my local dealer's inventory right now, the 4xes don't have a dealer discount while the v6+auto do.

There is a dealer a few towns over that has a fat $4k discount on everything though.

From my own anecdote though, I see more and more 4xe on the road. I'm not surprised.

Oh hell no! The majority that have owned both WANT the 2.0. It does everything the 3.6 does (with more room under the hood) except eat parts. Damn you Jeep, damn you!

I want the 2.0 in my 2 door! Being such a light vehicle, that is gonna be hella fun to drive.

I've had the 3.6 in two different JKs, its was alright.... nothing to special order and fuss over in my view.

Back again with JL#3, 2 door Willys
Had the 2.0 in a 21 two door rubicon, loved how peppy it was, but I could not shake my regret of not going manual, so I’m in a 23 manual 2 door Willy’s and love it (got her right before the stop sale). She feels like a pig around town but I’m happy with my choice.
I’m also one who took the vroom handout when the getting was good. I sold a ram 1500 I had owned for two years and came out pretty well on the deal. I sold it to vroom while waiting for my Jeep to be built, which was a 2 door manual rubicon at the time. Well, the 7 week build time kept moving and moving so I went way out of state and got the 2 door auto 2.0. Ended up my Jeep was built like 7 months after the order date and I had long given up on it.
