Anyone know the correct tap to use to repair threads of a JL (two door) 2020 Wrangler frame? Picture attached. My passenger side step went in without an issue. The driver side has been challenging. With the bolts of pinch weld held very loosely, an Allen bolt is supposed to thread in vertically into the frame bolt hole that is nearby. When I realized my bolt wasn't catching a thread, I took the step out of the equation and realized I had possibly stripped the bolt and possibly the bolt hole. This wasn't an issue on the passenger side a few weeks ago. It's tough to compress the spring without losing a finger and have the frame bolt threads catch given that the washer has to be slid in from above. My Allen wrench hasn't been successfully getting a thread caught. There is a shaft just below these holes that prevents pushing a washer straight upwards.

M.O.R.E. is sending another Allen head bolt this weekend (an M8 1.25x25mm button head bolt).

Wouldn’t you use the same tap as the bolt they’re sending?

Related question, how did you contact M.O.R.E.? I’ve been trying to see what size the quick release pin is, as I need a new one. My current pin is rusty and a pain to get out.

Yeah, if nothing else I'll stand in the bolt section of the hardware store and see if I can test against some known entities.

I contacted M.O.R.E. via the order confirmation email (responded to it).

Today I tried one of the new bolts provided by M.O.R.E.. I got it threaded in partially (without hinge/spring forces) and did not like the results of trying to run this through the frame. It messed up some threads. Based on letters and numerals on the bolt, I bought a tap for M8 1.25". Seemed to be just what I needed.

Moral of the story--without pressing hard upwards on the hinge assembly, the flat surface with the bolt hole would force a weird angle while threading in the button head Allen bolt. I was leary since 50 lbs of force could snap a finger if the hinge spring was not under control. Taping a washer to the hole through which the screw would pass and using a longer Allen wrench made this easier. The other set of hands ran an errand while I successfully applied the method of the infamous Patches O'Houlihan. Seems I didn't need four hands as I feared.

The title of this thread is a little misleading. Cross threading is cross threading regardless of the brand. M.O.R.E. was helpful. Potentially giving me information on my thread dilemma could have gotten interesting if I hosed the tapping.
