Hi! I just recently purchased a used Wrangler in gobi color and I would like to mod it to get something similar to this build:
Jeep Wrangler JL Color-matching a bumper f3da4e66520bfc043fbe5798897af7e8

I have two questions:
1- What's the easiest/best to get the OEM steel bumper painted in a color close to gobi? I was thinking about using Rust-Oleum truck bed coating in tan color. Or is it better to have it bedlined (or powder-coated?) by a professional? Has anyone done it themselves?
2- If I have a professional do it, I would like to leave them the bumper and a piece of painted bodywork, so that they can take their time to match it. What's the easiest-to-remove piece of painted bodywork in a JL? I was thinking a fender, but I don't want to (and cannot) drive around without one.
Thanks!

Well when I had my hardtop paint matched I used caliber collision they're a chain shop. I talked to the manager and he told me that they were fine with doing bumpers fender flares stuff like that for me too in the future. I don't know if you have one of those nearby but for me at least they were easy to work with I had my hardtop shipped directly to them and then they did the painting. Now for color matching the easiest panel to remove is the little quarter panel there between the hood and the base of the windshield that would probably be the easiest way but you have to understand that that may not be the best panel to paint match. For me they ended up paint matching my door and they did have to keep my Jeep for a couple days because the first sample may not be right you know they do several samples paint samples I mean and all that so the more you're willing to work with them the better job they're going to be able to do.

This is one of those deals where you actually have to go and talk to somebody in person and find out what they're willing to do maybe not every caliber collision is even willing to do that but you know I found one with a manager that was cool. But no matter what you really need to find a local paint shop and go talk to them and let them know what you're trying to do so they can help you the best you know.

For a metal bumper I’d stick with a DIY solution (tintable Rhino liner for example), as it’s likely you’ll have to touch it up from rock chips, etc every now and then.

I'm going to have my bumpers paint matched and my solution to the problem is touch up paint.

It's already pinstriped so as long as it looks good from 20 feet that's fine by me. Just being realistic. I paid almost $1,400 to have my top painted and it got scratched up the very first time I took it off road. Just part of it.
