What is the recommended code reader for the JL. I just had a check engine light come up a couple of days ago. Jeep is running fine though.

As they are universal tools, any OBD-II scanner should be fine. I've been using a Craftsman unit for 20+ years now. Have a look at Amazon to get the lay of the land, to include Bluetooth plug-in modules.

In a pinch, the chains, like Advance Auto, do usually offer free readings of CEL codes.

The benefits of JSCAN are enormous compared to other "read only" scanners. JSCAN is an app for your phone and you'll need a way to wirelessly connect to your vehicle. Apparently, I have an outdated method. So, others can share the latest methods.

If you go the the JScan website they go into detail regarding the best OBD Bluetooth adapters for their product. More importantly also the ones that do not work well.

Thanks for the jscan tip. Can I use it through my Bluetooth connection or do I still need a dongle or something else to plug in. The instructions seem to say that I can use Bluetooth. No wires needed. However, I tried connecting it and it doesn't seem to connect but it's not just yet. Any help with this app would be great. It looks like a really good app though. If I have to pay for it or whatever I don't mind just wanted to work.

As mentioned in post 5, a BT OBD-II module is required when using JScan.
