New to the JL. Jist turned a thousand miles tonight.

Does any one know how to set the uconnect so that the clock/time displays when you turn off the radio/media? It seems weird to jave this big blank screen with nothing when turned off...

Agreed!! I have a 2019 and find it strange unless the system is on you get a blank screen.

With all of the things that it has on the infotainment system why would you turn it off?

Looks like the settings allow only for whether or not it is displayed in the header. Likewise, there is some control over where/if the time appears on the message center screen behind the steering wheel.

Not sure about Apple Play, but Android Auto displays large format time w/ date under it once notifications have been cleared...probably the closest to which you refer.

For my personal preference, it really isn't "off" if something is displaying, is it? Seems logical that if it is really "off" it would not display anything. I've had GM products that always displayed something on the screen, even when the system was "off"...no option to truly get that absence of distraction, as stated above.

After the GM's, the ability to turn the screen off completely is a welcome feature.

I know this is an old thread, but I was wondering the same thing on our new 2020 JL Sport with 7" system. Seems odd to have a blank screen to me too. Also seems odd that theres a compass mode but to use it the audio has to be turned on?? If someone has figured a way to just have the display, you know, compass, clock with no audio I'd love to hear about it. I've tried all the menus and looked at the owners manual to no avail. I do see you can blank the screen, but how about we have a show the screen mode? Yeah, I know, don't even tell me "well just push the audio mute button if you don't want to hear music". I know I can do that. It'll be the same people telling me this that say; "if you don't want ESS just push the button" I get it, just want to know if there's a way to do it by default rather than always having to interact with multiple button pushes.

Agree on this,I've been using the Mute button, seems to be only way to keep "other" displays on.
It would be nice if we could choose a Wallpaper, from Jeep, or a photo , just to avoid the Blank Stare of that screen.

Well, at least it’s not just me. I thought I had to be missing something.

There is a lot missing when comparing current UConnect to other infotainment systems. It feels like there is so much more it should be able to do. Like changing font size of clock or temperature. At least give us the option for a multi window home screen with a summary of most used items (media, hvac, clock, nav etc)
