Cheap on tire rack solution?

Anyone ever hack an on tire tray out of a couple pieces of angled 4x4 and a 3/8” sheet of aluminum attached then strapped on tire with ratchet? I only need it for this one trip. Headed on family vacation and need some extra space because of taking extra person and dog (personally I’d let the dog sit up front with me and strap a person on the roof but… ) not interested in buying a tongue tray or roof system…

Guilty... didn't even use aluminum, used a scrap hunk of OSB sheet from when I built my shed. Actually used it twice

RSE makes a system like that for the spare (Its expensive) so your solution should work. I have the system for the gas tanks and they've held up for 5000+ miles and rock crawling. Just make sure your spare is not overloaded.

Not really an answer but I have a hitch receiver tray you can borrow for the trip. Bucks County, PA. Also have a waterproof bag for it.

Thanks! You are definitely close (Bucks too) let me see what shakes out on this idea. There’s no receiver and this would be the only reason we’d put one on but I e found them pretty cheap from people taking them off of their lease returns. I have a large pelican case so WX cover is not an issue.
