There are not many boulders where I am, but there are many, many Mercedes and BMW drivers that are happy to constantly smash the sides of your car with their doors in every parking garage and lot.
So, I decided to swap out the factory rock rails for Carnivore Side Steps from Quadratec. I‘ve put wide side steps on my truck and the last Jeep, and they were 100% effective at solving this problem. Two Tacomas ago…. No side steps/running boards…. 20+ door dings in a few years.
They seem solid, look good, stick out about 6 inches, and as a bonus, give you something to put your off-foot on when you slide out of the Jeep and a step for shorties to step on to get in. Cover the pinch seams very well.
Thought I’d post a pic in case anyone is debating these. So far I like them, and they suit my fairly pedestrian needs nicely.
Forgive the sand splashes. Some flooding this week, on and off.
