I need to drop my front suspension to remove some bump stops. When I do, I considered flipping these lower shock mount bolts in the rear around while I'm turning wrenches. Is there any reason I shouldn't? Just seems like the pointy end towards my tires isn't the greatest thing.

Thanks

We typically leave them that direction so it is less likely the threads can get damaged when wheeling.
That makes perfect sense. Hadn't thought of it.

That's odd. My 2020 JLUR came with the bolts pointing inwards, and I thought that was quite odd. You can bet a reversed them!

Note that if you install lower control arm skids, the length of those bolts will be used up in the thickness of the skid mounting points. In other words, definitely don't cut them if you're going to add those lower arm skids.

keep in mind that the bolt and the tire and in a fix position relative to each other being on the same solid axle. If your tire max contact with that bolt you either have too little back spacing your your axle tube is not in good condition

advantage like other said its a less exposed spot for rocks as the tire will protect it, and you could argue a little safer spot if that nut backs off the bolt will not fall out with gravity.

options to shortening the bolt with be either cut down the bolt or put in a shorter grade 8 bolt of the same diameter

You can cut them shorter, a couple threads past the nut. That way you don't have to worry above messing up the thread and having a difficult removal.
