If you wash and wax weekly, you'll have a nice glossy finish.
If you don't wash it except for maybe once a year (excluding hosing off mud and winter salt), there is a, well, kind of patina that develops. Not quite as classy as the matte finish in the photo above, but at least it's "natural."
Do I practice what I preach? I've washed my Rubi twice in 2+ years, both times letting a looming thunderstorm do the rinsing. That doesn't include what I call sponge baths: Cleaning the headlights and windows, which I do as needed for snow and/or bugs, as applicable. My Rubi hasn't complained yet!
