Bulb Grease For Squeaking Tailgate Seal

I know it’s been discussed many times but I wanted to post my experience on using Bulb Grease to stop the squeaking annoying sound from the tailgate.

I initially thought it was the tire carrier so I took it to 4 Wheel Parts to have them look at it and they said it’s wasn’t and I have to go to the dealership to get a new seal. I called the dealership and they said they’ll have to keep my Jeep for 3 or so days to run diagnostics test etc…..uh nope not happening! After all that said and a trip to Walmart Bulb Grease on the weather stripping seems to work! I even put it on the side rubber pieces and on the Freedom Panels weather stripping as well and that seems to help with the minor squeaking around that area.

Last year or so the seals on my hardtop windows were crazy squeaky. I googled it and found a recommendation to use a rubber seal grease from Honda. Stuff worked like magic, and I proceeded to use it on everything I could find. Haven't heard a squeak from them since I've used it.

Been using dielectric grease "bulb grease" on my 2018 JL for 73,000 mi.. Works great and never ever any squeaks originating from the tail gate seal..
