I picked up this Sport in March to have a project to fiddle with. No intention to do serious trails, it will be used to get off pavement and for camping tips.

Jeep Wrangler JL Building a dirt road runner i-pX5pmCQ-L

Current mods - 33" tires and Rubicon axles.

It still needs a winch and a front bumper...and more time off pavement.

I ordered the axles from my dealer's parts counter. They arrived in big wooden crates about 6 days later.

The install wasn't complicated but the axles are very heavy for one person to move around.

My order also included the wiring pigtails for the lockers. My Sport has the towing package with the Aux switches. That made the wiring easy.

That sounds expensive.

What's the price of being satisfied?

While not the cheapest way to get the gearing and lockers, I'm still way under the cost of a Rubicon with this Sport and the improvements plus there's some warranty on Mopar parts. There's no warranty from the local axle mechanic.

There's also the cost of entertainment... This project filled that need for me over the course of a few weeks from the research to install.

Oh I hear ya. For me a Rubicon vs my willys is a 10k difference. So 5k axles plus 1k in taxes and stuff is till cheaper.

I did moab fine on 33s with a rear locker in my old 2012 Nissan xterra.

I'll probably just add a rear locker down the road after the warranty expires. Since the I'll already comes with a d44 rear.

All my fund go into a 88 jaguar xjs I'm rebuilding lkl
