You guys sold me: I'm going for a modest spring spacer lift now... I didn't even think of potential issues like the gas tank hose, etc...
Don't pull the trigger yet! stay tuned on here. There's plenty of Rubicon Take offs you could get cheap. Just put in a thread looking for one. and you may find one near you cheap.

my brother has a 2" body lift as well as spacer lift on his 00 tj. had no problem. i havent looked in to a jl body lift. my idea is this, anything less than 2" body lift is kind of pointless. if i did a 2 or 3" body lift, i would match it with a equal or more on the suspension lift. the other option i would do is the 2" spring spacer. that way i can keep the ride comfort and gain the clearance for larger tires.

i've used daystar product and been happy with them.

Chris, I'm actually the opposite. I think body lifts should be 2" or less. Beyond that they become too noticeable.

For me, I think a small BL is a nice boost to a suspension kit for a bigger lift on a budget, or to get height without sacrificing comfort. For example you can get a 2" suspension kit for as low as $275 (Daystar currently on Amazon) . Add a 1.25" body lift (Zone Offroad on the mfg site) for $75. For $350 you've got a 3.25" lift that rides as comfortably as stock. The cheapest 3" kit I saw on Quadratec is $580, with most of them being over $1K. So if you just want the look, or to clear bigger tires, a BL with a small suspension kit is a great way to save money.
Besides the cost, most (maybe all) 3+" lifts are stiffer than stock. That makes sense because they're intended to give more articulation, and better off-road performance. However some people just want a lift, not a trail rig. If you want to keep your comfortable stock ride (I love my Sahara comfort), you could do this combo and be at 3.25" without giving up the comfort.
