Hey everyone,

With spring finally rolling in, I’m itching to get the rig out and hit some trails. Snow’s melting, the mud’s calling, and it feels like the perfect time to explore what Washington has to offer this season.

I’m looking for recommendations on the best places to go 4-wheeling right now. Ideally:

  • Good mix of trails (nothing too extreme, but still fun)
  • Scenic views (mountains, forests, rivers—anything worth stopping for)
  • Open/accessible this time of year (or at least partially thawed)
I’ve heard a bit about places like Capitol Forest and Evans Creek, but I’d love to hear firsthand experiences—what’s good in the spring, what to avoid, and any hidden gems you’re willing to share!

Also curious about:

  • Current trail conditions (muddy vs still snowed in?)
  • Permit requirements or passes needed
  • Any must-have gear for this time of year
Appreciate any tips, photos, or trip reports. Let’s help each other make the most of spring wheeling!

Thanks in advance 🤘

Tillamook is awesome! Been 2 times in 2 different jeeps without a pass. That was my bad though because I didn’t know and it was spur of the moment on the way to the tillamook factory the first time and second time I had just got my wrangler and was in the area for training for work and had some extra time.
Rocklander route is definitely on the list! And pretty much the entire Wa state BDR. Highlight would be bethel ridge!
Naches is awesome. I’ve been on the trail once. Been in the green water area countless times. Government meadows will be sprawling with wild flowers. We have a couple cool places five fingers, moon rocks and funny rocks I’d like to check out.

Evan’s Creek is inaccessible, Fairfax bridge is closed. Tahuya has some good trails and no snow. Natchez is probably snowed in right now. Some interesting stuff on the east side of the mountains; Taneum, Manastash and stuff around Yakima like Tieton area, but haven’t been there in years so not sure of current conditions/access. Have fun!
