Wondering what the normal procedure for dealership service is?

Have a weird whining noise that lasts a few seconds after I take my foot of the accelerator (at highway speeds only) and I just bought the Jeep a month ago, a 2021 Certified Pre-Owned by Jeep.

So I thought why not take it to the dealership to diagnose it since it's fully covered. Made an appointment for the morning and dropped it off and the service advisor says it will be about 2-3 days before any tech will look at it. Is this standard for Jeep dealerships? I've only been to Toyota, Lexus and Mazda service departments and always was seen on the appointment date.

Service advisor also says if there is an issue that needs to be repaired and it's covered in the warranty they need to get approval by Jeep which will take up to 72 hours as well.

So in total from appointment date, my Jeep will be sitting at the dealership 7 days BEFORE any possible repair work even starts.

I may be able to borrow a beater from a family member to drive in the meantime but how are people managing with repairs, recalls and warranty work if this is normal procedure anytime you bring it to a dealership?

The one time I took my JLU to my selling CDJR dealer for a potential warranty issue, I had to wait a week for the appt. slot. Said differently, they only require the vehicle to be brought in when it can be received and worked on straightaway. Fair enough.

Every dealer will do things as they prefer to do them. Absent exigent circumstances, I personally won't surrender a vehicle, only to have it sit until a technician is available. That's no way to run a railroad.

** also had a video recording of the sound that I wanted to show the advisor and techs but she never seemed bothered to watch it. She scheduled it for a multi point inspection (which will be out of pocket charge and not covered in warranty) and wrote "humming noise when coasting on highway" in the notes and that's it.

I'm hoping the techs can reproduce the sound and actually do a thorough check and not just do a basic visual inspection?

So I guess it's common CDJR practice.

I even asked if I can drop the Jeep back off on the 3rd day when your tech is ready for it and they said no. The Jeep has to be dropped off and sit in queue in their lot lol

A lot of it comes down to available bays in their shop and availability of parts. They had mine for 2 months to replace a bad locker sensor. I see that you are in SoCal. Can I ask what dealership you are using? You can DM if you don't what that info. public.

No, I wouldn't say it's common. As suggested in my post, my CDJR dealer does it the correct way: they'll intake the vehicle only when a technician can begin working on it without delay.

That some Svc Depts require drop-off in advance, just to have the vehicle join the line, will depend on the dealer in question.

Call different dealerships see what they say. If it's warranty you might be eligible for a rental, call Jeep support if needed maybe.

I usually drop mine off on appointment, they look at it, if parts are required etc, I go back at a later date to get it fixed.

I sort out the warranty etc before the repair work is scheduled.

2x they tried to get me to pay for warranty work, their AI apparently required hints from the customer suggesting it should be covered under warranty.

Generally I have an independent mechanic that looks over the Wrangler when I take it for maintenance, and he say if there are possible issues.

I checked with 2 other dealerships and they both said the same thing that it's 24-48 hours from appointment date and drop off of car for it to be seen. So I figured I'd just go with the closest one since it's all the same wait time even with an appointment

Your dealership looked at your Jeep the same day as your appointment? You would think that's a no brainer

The service advisor also was hinting to me that the limited powertrain warranty doesn't cover a lot of issues so be prepared...

Every dealer I've dealt with wants you to drop it off and leave it until they can get to it. I assume their theory is if they can get to it earlier they can. Last time my Jeep was at a dealer it was there for 6 weeks waiting for a tech to return from vacation.

Any estimate I've been given by a Jeep dealer has never been accurate. They always need it "another 2 or 3 more days."

You didn't say where you have your Jeep but if it's at Rydell CDJR go get it back asap. That place is a disaster.

The dealerships in our area operate the same way and it's a pretty shitty way to operate if you ask me. You call them and schedule an appointment, usually 2 weeks out, that is just to drop the Jeep off (unless it's a basic service, lube changes and such), then it sits for only God knows how long before they even look at it to diagnose. That is precisely why I won't take my Jeep to a dealer for the Hesitation issue. I am not going to leave my vehicle somewhere for some untold amount of time when there isn't even a fix for the problem yet or to have some half wit just start replacing random parts unnecessarily.

Wow makes no sense, as long as they fix the issue I guess I'll be content

Yeah only reason I even took chose the dealership was because of the CPO warranty. Which really loses it's value if it involves weeks and months of the Jeep just sitting on their lot...

I just had mine in on Saturday - dropped it off at 7AM and picked it up at 1230PM. Now I did make my appointment almost two weeks ago.
