Yep. Because these guys give stuff out for free to get good ratings on Amazon. Impossible to trust the Amazon ratings/reviews for these guys. But I would trust the review from @blnewt.

The Bolt hood lock will be released in about 2 weeks. $117 for it but you can match the lock to your key. That's what I will be going with.
And it's slipped again. My late August order from Quadratec showed it would ship 10/11 but 2 days ago that was removed and today it shows 11/1. I emailed Bolt and received the following reply though I have no faith in them shipping soon since the JL is now on it's 3rd production year and others have been told "very soon" too in the past.

We had a planned production spot for the JL hood locks, however we were bumped out of our production spot a few weeks ago which was out of our control. We are just as excited about this product as our customers, and we are in no way holding back its release. We appreciate your patience, however I am not able to release any dates as to when it will be shipped, other then saying they will be available very soon.

Installed today in about 10 minutes, came in a well packaged box w/ foam cutouts for all the parts. They are ABS like the OEM latches, they have the same threaded studs coming out so you can (and should) use the OEM nuts since they have an integrated washer vs. the new ones that are just nyloc nuts without the better hold down that that washer provides. I tried leaving the OEM latch mount on the hood and they worked about the same as the new mounts. The new mounts seemed to clamp a bit tighter since that rest that the latch clamps to is just a bit higher (probably since it hasn't been clamped against over time like the OEMs) but ???
The round key needs to be pushed all the way in and turned, it will turn when lightly pushed in but won't engage the lock so just need to get a little practice, works fine once you're used to it.

Seems to do what I wanted, although an aggressive thief may be able to pry them off w/ a pry bar. I'm thinking a casual thief may see the locks and move on. For the price I'm happy w/ them and they do look clean vs. others I've seen, although I'll keep my OEMs in my stow tray in case these get jacked with. I'll keep you posted if any issues arise.

Gotta admit they look better than mine. Though with all metal construction the ones I have might be a bit more secure. And they've been on for almost a year now with no corrosion or wear issues. Thanks for the review!

I have my doubts as to the usefulness of something like this. If anything, they invite hood damage from the prying mechanism that will be used to break them open.

What am I missing?

Most locks aren't all that secure, mostly keeping honest folk honest (and to deter the lazy up-to-no-gooder). A determined thief will only be slowed by most locks be they wheel locks, hood locks, door locks, locks and bagels, whatever.

If they're gonna go to the hassle to pry off the locks, hood damage is probably the least of your worries.

I ordered the Bolt Hood Lock from Quadratec on 8/15. On 9/12 I contacted Bolt asking when they will release and Crystal at Bolt responded on 9/12 with "very soon." On 10/9, I sent Bolt another email asking about the release and on 10/10 I received the same (copy & paste) response. At least Bolt is telling everyone the same thing, however my definition and Bolt's definition of "very soon" is very different.

I agree. If someone REALLY wants under your hood they'll pry the hood open whether it's a Wrangler or a Civic. With the latter they just need to pop a window and pull the hood release. Fortunately, most vehicle break-ins are smash-n-grabs or easy opportunities. No thief wants to be caught so the event is typically something very short and easy versus prying open hood locks (time, noise, etc). Same goes for a locking gas cap which became very popular in my youth (1970's) when gas prices were high and siphoning became very common. Not hard to bust open but requires effort and noise which increases their risk.

Park your vehicle on a lonely country road and it will stripped (low risk for a thief) versus "most" populated areas. A professional thief knows Wrangler hoods are easy targets so I'm just trying to remove the easy target. 4 days ago the local newspaper had an article where an arrest was made when a guy broke into 25 vehicles in one subdivision back in June. The term "broke in" is used loosely since none of the vehicles were locked and he obtained a handgun, purses, keys and credit cards.

What would thieves be after, that is under your hood? Seems like if they are going under the hood, they already have the tools required to strip it down, and a lock will pose no issues to them.

I just don't see the smash and grab type thief finding anything useful under your hood.

Snip the cables and a battery is worth $25. I never said they were smart. I personally know someone who left a $1 bill laying in a cup holder and someone popped their window and only got $1.

In my youth most vehicles didn't have an inside hood or gas cover release but that changed. Some people will steal items with any perceived value and you don't have to be in the worst part of town for that to occur.
