The amount of people I see that drive distracted has shot through the sky. People playing games on their phone while driving, watching Netflix Squid Games while driving, FaceTiming with both hands on the phone looking into the camera while driving…

I just don’t understand when did everybody become so careless and self-absorbed.

Remember back in the day when we started to see parents letting their kids run wild and saying to ourselves "god help us when they're grown up"?

Well, that time is here.

As we keep adding ways in which to save bad or inattentive drivers, they keep coming up with more ways to try and kill themselves. Driving has gotten too easy.

I know, right! Nothing distracted us when we were teenagers. That said, I have a friend that is a fire chief and says that cell phone driving is now causing a lot more injury and death than DUI driving.

As we keep adding ways in which to save bad or inattentive drivers, they keep coming up with more ways to try and kill themselves. Driving has gotten too easy.

I look forward to the days when ordinary commuter traffic is all self driving cars. The days of idiots not paying attention while driving will be a memory. They'll still not be paying attention but it won't matter.

If it only affected the people drinking or on the phone, I'd say let the chips fall where they may. Trouble is, those people hurt others in the process.

Maybe if we upped the penalties, with things like mandatory jail time for killing someone while drunk/distracted, we might see some shift away from that trend.
