Just picked up a 19 2d Rubicon. 100% stock. I have a bunch of upgrades sitting on the floor waiting for some free time to install, AEV lift and full Yeti steering.

I put it in the air yesterday and noticed it had the alum. steering box, I know I have read about issues with these so should I get it swapped out under warranty before I start building. It does not have any flex or movement and I do have the Yeti sector shaft/track bar brace that will be going on it.

Drives fine now just thinking I should address any possible warranty issues before I start swapping out parts.

Won't happen under warranty....(3yr/36k)
If it drives fine, leave as is. Several members stated that they have no issues with the aluminum design. It was not a recall.
Install the brace, and enjoy it.

I have a steel steering box sitting around. Never ended up needing it.

I’ve only had my 2019 JLUR since July, and when I first got it I felt the steering was a little loose compared to what I was used to with other cars. Mine has the aluminum box as well, and when I looked into it I discovered there was a steel one that is supposed to improve that. However, after driving my JLUR for the last couple of months, I’ve decided it’s just fine. Some people have “upgraded” and saw no difference and I’ve even read of at least one person mention that their steering got worse.

Previous owner purchased the 8/125k Mopar max plan that will cover it if needed. But sounds like I will just brace it and run with it.

Thanks

If it is not broken, then why try to fix it. Not all of the aluminum steering boxes were defective.

I had my done preventative a month before the warranty expired. If you are under warranty, go read the TSB (not a recall) and use the language to describe the issue stated in the TSB. It says if the customer states X then they are to replace.
