Alligator clips

I took out my back seat and installed a cargo dog storage want to put the folding flat panel that covers the gap back on It is held there with alligator clips I cant get them out and cant push the panel back in Does anyone know some sort secret trick to reuse them?

Originally I used these and although they’re slightly shorter than OEM they worked. I ended up modifying the gap filler panel when I installed a Tuffy rear cargo box and ended up using 3 rivnuts and black stainless 1/4-20 hardware to bolt it down securely. I was worried about the panel coming loose and one of our dogs stepping on the clip.
