Jay from Minneapolis. Granite Sahara and first ever Jeep. I mountain bike 2-3 days a week and ride weekends in Duluth/Cuyuna every month. We found some fantastic unmarked trails near Cuyuna and plan on caking the exterior in that great red dirt. Had the windows tinted and added a fuel door, but first expensive mod will need to be a swinging hitch mount bike rack. Oh, and I need to find a dead pedal solution, cause that’s just weird not having one.

Welcome Jay!

Have to admit, I needed to look up the definition of dead pedal!

Hi I’m from North Mankato. I’m in the pre purchase discovery phase right now. Definitely will be a Rubicon Unlimited with a 2.5” lift and 35” tires. I’m looking to get it delivered late summer or early fall so I can bring it out to Arizona with me in the fall.
Welcome Red Rubi!

Welcome Jay!

I've driven a manual for the last 10 years and decided against a manual for the wrangler (didn't have the feel I was looking for), but the dead pedal is where you rest your left foot when you're not using the clutch. I'm so used to it though that I've noticed my left foot/leg gets uncomfortable for longer than 40 minute drives.

This is what I'm waiting for to be made/confirmed it fits the JLs: https://www.quadratec.com/p/ami/dri...s2HjfF0x6yCuXAPEJiqhjQS_f6cuujuxoCIjUQAvD_BwE

What didn’t you like about the stick? That’s what I went with. Does the stick have a dead pedal? All my other cars have had them...

The biggest thing that I noticed was how much faster I was able to get moving in the 8spd auto, that's what pushed me to get that vs the manual. I also had a hard time getting over my previous car with a 6spd where I could push 60mph in 2nd...it was too big of a transition for me when I went to drive the Jeep.

But besides my weird complexes, I really did love the manual! I posted something similar in another thread but I was so surprised how tight everything felt. Gears almost snapped into place and shifts were super crisp with surprisingly short throws in-between. While in gear there was almost zero side-to-side play and rev matching was almost effortless. Had I been going from a previous Wrangler or a non sports car manual I think I would've gone with the 6spd. I can't say for sure if I remember the Jeep having a dead pedal in the manual, but I'd think it'd have to.

That’s all very good to hear! My other car is a 911 6spd with a nice close ratio six speed. When I drove a 6spd JK it felt like a big rig, although I still loved it. My latest DD has been a BMW 335is with the 7spd DCT and while that’s fun, I miss rowing my own gears too much. For my use of the Jeep, DD, some light duty overland and aggressive off-road only from time to time, I think the stick is going to be great. Had I planned on crawling rocks a lot more I’d have thought more about the auto box. We just don’t seem to have the trails around here for that though. Watching Trailrecon on YouTube makes me wish I was in San Diego, CA.

Now we're talking! A true driver's car if you ask me. In a couple years I hope to be getting into either another S4 or grab an RS4 if there are any left out there, that is if I'm over going through cylinder wall scoring on my v8...

Same here...
I'm beginning to think it could just be a manual thing? It's been a decade since I've owned an auto and isn't something I've paid attention to while in other cars. I'll be attending the MN auto show soon and I'll be taking a look at a few cars to see what they have. For science.
