A battery gamble - what would you do

My 50k MI battery seemed perfectly ok up until we had a few 9* mornings and it shit the bed.

Go get an H7 and just remove the aux all together its a pretty simple job.

That did the trick! So much so that I'll probably change my mind and I'll most likely head up there still topless and doorless...it's not THAT cold out

I ‘ve replaced all the batteries in my daily drivers with Oddesy brand batteries. There “spiral” technology does seem to work well and hold up longer then regular agm batteries.

still if battery is rated for 4 years, I replace them after 4 years.
no need to wait for a failer.
preventive maint. Not corrective maint.

battery maint.replacement is not a unique problem to jeeps..
all cars have them and will have no start issues if not replacing a 3,4,5 year battery at it’s end of rated life.

same with ess function Aux battery.
eliminate aux battery and replace main with highest cca battery available

From my recollection of reading these threads a couple of years ago, I think my '21 is updated since the 2018 design in regard to how the negative cable attaches to the main battery. I also have a winch wired up to the battery. Am I still going to be able to do the delete (It's something that I've been wanting to do)

Yes. I have a 2021 with a winch, and I deleted mine. I did post pictures on the delete threads on how I did it. If you search my posts I'm sure you will find it. I did like the low engagement of the single remaining 10mm nut, so I repurposed a wire harness from eBay to make it all look good and have plenty of room on the negative post.

My 2024 is not quite 2 years old, still under warranty and giving me a battery warning already...
Voltage reads 11.5 before startup with the Aux Switch Unavailable Battery Charging message....

Also had episodes of touch screen not responding to touch and message stating camera not available.

Taking it into the dealership to have the battery replaced tomorrow...charged up my NOCO for the ride down, just in case...

So.....

I gots to know...do ya feel lucky???

Dealership tech performed load test and found both batteries defective and replaced both under warranty.

Perfect and very smart! No guess and no stress. There are other tell-tale signs your battery is on its way out - but this one is definitive. Over 40+ years you figure out exactly when any 12V battery actually needs to be replaced vs continue on for maybe years just fine. You never get stranded this way - as a proper load test gives you plenty of time to swap out for new. Nice.

Correct optima batteries use a spiral technology in manufacturing.
I beliveit has more to do with better vibration resistance.
eitherway, they hold up well for me.point being replace battery at it’s end of’s rated life to minimize battery failure.
example my ford f 250 battery rated as 4 year battery. 4 years 3 months dead. No warning, slow crank just dead.
replaced with optima battery. Same brand I use in my hi compression race car engines.
honda civic. Factory battery rated at five years. Five years one month dead. No warning. Replaced with optima battery.

point is not so much what replacement brand battery is.replace a 4 year battery at 4 years or 5 year battery at 5 years. Anything over is borrowed time
basic auto preventive maintenance, just like an oil change.

The batteries for my Dewalt power tools have a three year warranty. At three years, maybe replacement, just for peace of mind?
