I ended up having to get a side mount opener to get rid of that metal elbow in the middle to accommodate a Rubicon.

I'm curious about those of you who have trouble with your garage door heights. Where are you generally located in the county and what's the rough estimate of time of construction for your garage?

I live in the south and we built our home in 2013. The garage door opening is 7' and seems to be about standard for our location.

Also in the South, but the house was built in 1975. The openings are roughly 6.5 feet. Super annoying. My Hyundai Veloster fits no problem, but husband's Nissan Pathfinder will not clear the roof rack with the center mount door opener.

I don’t have the luxury of being able to build a brand new house. My home was built in 1963 and the garage door height is 6 1/2 feet.
Our previous house was built in the 1950s. One of the good things about living in my area is that home prices are actually affordable. My New JLUR MSRPs for almost exactly half of what we sold the 1st house for.

My garage door opening height is 74" and the JL fits in there ok.
Now, I am putting a 2" lift and adding 34" tires and I am really hoping it will still fit...

Take this for what it is, advice from a garge door installer. Be careful adjusting the arm, or limits on your opener. Some adjustments can be detrimental to the life, functionality, and safety of the door itself. Also if you open the door too far you can unspool or dump the cable off of the grooves on the drums they wrap around causing several issues that will need to be fixed by a qualified technician. They are dangerous. Be safe everyone. Just my 2 cents.

View attachment 15372 View attachment 15373 View attachment 15374 There have been a few threads about the actual height of JLs and their ability to fit into a standard garage. After measuring my garage door height, I realized I have a low-clearance opening and door track assembly. After a couple of measurements at the lowest points of the door hardware, I realized I had to make some adjustments. Now my lowest point is 74 inches. If this isn’t enough clearance for my Sport S, I can adjust it a little more. It’s better to check these things now, rather than wait until you bring it home and realize it won’t fit!
File lawsuit...

JDClampet, it’s great that you are giving great advice to everyone. Please head his warning! Not only your safety is at risk but your wife and kids also not to mention your Jeep!

That being said, could you give us so ideas as to solutions to these problems?

I’ve seen the side winding doors but know nothing about them! What about the ones that open straight out like a canopy?

Being this is you profession I would think you could find solutions for the members here!

Thanks

The website says Sport, Rubicon and Sahara are all 73.6", whether 2 door or 4 door. I don't trust that.
I noticed that too, and it doesn't seem right. I'd think they should be 3 different heights, since they each have a different wheel diameter and different suspension. Unless the suspension heights compensate for the tire heights??

Excellent video. He states he has a standard 7 foot door. Our basement garage has a 6’-6” Door. Pretty common on the older homes around here. I might not be able to fit his Rubicon in my garage.
Mine is also 6'6" (house built in 1975). Hubby made the same adjustments you made on our current opener, and installed a side mount opener on the other door (it had no opener until now). The adjusted overhead track door actually ended up giving more clearance. But at least we have 2 openers now...
