Trying to spec order a 2dr Rubicon X and the dealer notes they all come with hard top. It's a $2495 upcharge for the dual top group to 'downgrade' to the soft top addition....I have no use or interest in a hard top. Did Jeep really make them all hard tops in the X and force you to pay $2500 for the cheaper soft top? Appreciate any confirmations but appears accurate from initial research. THANKS

If you want a soft top, you have to get the regular Rubicon and add all the packages. X only comes with body colored hard top. If you want leather seats...you have to get an X, LOL.

You really should be able to build them out a little better. Personally you should be able to get something other than black seats as well. Sun+black seats=ouch. You just have to play with it and configure the vehicle you like best.

In my opinion Jeep really screwed the customer over with the Rubicon packages.

Want a soft top? You have to order a standard Rubicon or a dual top group if you want a Rubicon X. People like me only want the soft top, not the hard top.

Want the steel bumper group? Order it on a standard Rubicon and you have to also take a winch with the steel bumper group. The Rubicon X comes with the steel bumper group and if you want a winch it’s extra.

Want a leather interior? Not available on a standard Rubicon; only available on a Rubicon X.

Want black fenders? They resist chipping better than painted fenders. Standard on a standard Rubicon. Not available on a Rubicon X; only painted fenders.

There may be other “have this, gotta take that options; those are just the ones I can think of. Sad they don’t have a free flow ala carte option to order a Jeep the way “U” want it.

I am looking at this now with the wife. She wants the color matched top on the X, but we also want to tow 5000. I understand the 35's aren't ideal, but isn't the rest of it the same as the regular Rubicon? Floating rear axle? 4.56 gearing should only help, right?

The only thing I think jeep screwed up is the soft top only option. The rest I think is a non-issue. I ordered a Rubicon and added all the packages (minus steel bumper) in for this reason. you "miss out" on steel bumpers (can add), color matched fenders/top, leather seats and additional sound dampening. that's it. you pay effectively 1k for the leather, color match, and sound dampening. I didn't want color matched and deal with chips and damage. Didnt want leather, way too hot. so is the sound dampening/insulation worth it. not really. I take the plastic bumper, buy an after market steel bumper for less, and have a back up plastic bumper.

And just to further confirm and adding to my frustration, there is NO option at all for a soft top on the 2 dr X, which is what I am building, well, was building. You can't even order the dual top package - only on the 4 dr. WTF are they thinking with this??? I LOVE Jeeps, but man they make bone headed decisions at times. Agreed on above with the idiotic package variances you get forced to between Rubicon and X - of course I want the steel bumpers, but don't want the $2K winch...well, if I build the Rubicon now I have no choice as the steel bumpers require the winch....polar opposite on the X - steel bumpers come on it and it's upgrade for winch. DUMB. I'll either stew on it and build a Rubicon and try not to be pissed off or just wait for the next version when all the options will be there.
