The AB indicates a revision compared to AA as the rest of the number is the same. Verify paint code but AB should be fine if it matches.

I saw an older thread in 2016 that said the AB was noticeably too dark. Just want to be sure I get the right paint. Hopefully someone with a 2023 or 2024 Anvil can come in

The paint code on the door jamb (PDS) doesn’t help, does it?

What does the paint code on your door jamb say? And as far as someone making claims about it being too dark...Any paint that doesn't come from the same batch isn't going to match. That's why body shops make multiple samples to compare to before doing any paintwork on a car. Adjustments always have to be made. They went through half a dozen samples before they got a match when they painted my hardtop. And even then the paint only really matches the driver door. The hood is slightly off from the body which is slightly off from the doors and the top got matched to the driver door but the doors don't match the tub.

But good luck hopefully somebody can "chime in" and tell you what you want to hear.

Yup. That’s exactly why I asked.
I have 2024 Anvil and the only paint code I’m aware of is the PDS shown here.

Yeah I don't really know what to tell the guy as the AB vs BB part number really doesn't matter. That's just not how it works. It could be a different supplier, it could be a new formula, it could mean just about anything. All you know can glean from it is AA is the original and AB is a revision but a revision of what? No way to know. Technically as long as it has the same PDS paint code it is the same paint. But like I mentioned above it's just not that simple.

The best way to handle it would be buy both, shoot a sample and see which one comes out better to your eyes. That's really the only way to be sure.

I tried to get some Anvil touch up paint from the dealer last summer (ā€˜24) and they didn’t have any. The parts manager told me that Mopar was changing suppliers. I’m guessing that’s what the change from AA to AB is about.

I also would like to know about the different shades of grey that Jeep came out with, can’t seem to find it online. I seen a newer Jeep what looked to me was Anvil, but it’s darker. Like as in dark grey. I can’t seem to find the year dark grey was made or it’s actual colour name. Anyone know the year it came out?
