So, one of the absolute essentials on my list of my 2020 Rubi 2 dr was the Alpine upgrade. As an 80’s child, sound systems in your ride were as important if not more than the ride itself . As technology has improved greatly in newer vehicles aftermarket sound systems aren’t nearly as popular as they used to be. The Alpine addition in the new Jeeps is nostalgic for me because Alpine was the definite go to in the 80’s.

When I first got in my Rubi I played some tracks from my iPod directly starting with instrumentals, then vocal focused and lastly to deep base. The system sounds incredible. Now given the tighter cabin space I wonder how the system would perform in a 4 door. More concert like? Or did the details fade a bit? Perhaps some on here can shed some light. Nonetheless the system did not disappoint with the exception of two things.

1. The volume. With the doors and top on and a window open, there is plenty of volume to do damage to your eardrums however... in testing max volume I wonder if volume output will be enough with top and doors off? Can anyone speak to this? I would have thought at full volume this system would be inaudible.. it’s not.

2. Subwoofer placement. Now, I personally think this looks pretty cool but.. I just ordered a weathertec cargo liner and am curious how much it would muffle the sound. Shouldn’t be to bad as low frequency sound waves should pass through. The other issue of course is weight. As beefy as the grill looks I wonder how much weight it could withstand before any damage would occur.

other than those two( comments more than criticisms ) I’m curious to hear everyone’s take on Alpine upgrade. Have a great weekend!!

Good Morning Whisky19, I have the Alpine also and when I first got the Jeep I was very impressed with the system....although like you have stated was not sure with the top/ doors off on the highway. There are many threads on here about people having the same doubts and after reading through them I upgraded the front and overhead speakers which did give the system a boost just by replacing the speakers. There was a write up by someone who did a full upgrade ..removing dash and installing new pods in the knee area and larger speakers along with upgrading the amp. I just purchased the soft top and until I have it on (or down) I should say, I won't know if any serious aftermarket upgrade for myself will be necessary . I also purchased the weathertek cargo liner and the spot where the bass speaker is has a cutout! so no compromise there! not sure about the weightb I usually carry a few things but nothing extremely heavy....I flip the seat up If I need space or remove it. Congratz on the new Jeep LOVE mine and It continues to make me smile!

The volume is speed sensitive and will adjust itself to maintain the same intensity as standing still. I'm no audiophile, but am half deaf in my left ear and the Alpine system has yet to disappoint even at highway speeds with all windows down.

Congratulations on your awesome new ride!

Thank you for the replies everyone. I guess listening levels are on an as per person basis so really, until summer comes, I’ll have to test volume levels first. My first go to would be to add an amp to magnify the current speakers if need be. I’m hoping pulling speakers out of the Alpine upgrade doesn’t need to happen. As for the sound dampening based on speed... I believe if you go to the EQ function this can be turned off. Happy travels!!

I am happy with mine. I used to build my own systems back in the 90s, but I’m at the stage in life where I’d rather spend the time doing other things. The optional Alpine system made the most sense.
