I noticed the other day that my engine fan sounded very loud as I was driving. I also noticed that the temp gauge shot up to the top twice and shot back down to normal a few times when driving. I checked under the hood and noticed I was completely out of coolant. I filled it with 50/50 and today I took a short drive and everything seemed fine however, when I checked the coolant level when I got back home, it was completely empty again. I did not see any leaks or find any coolant on the ground. Any explanation?

Do you check by the water pump and under the coolant tank? There is a big problem somewhere.

Have not checked, will do that today. Just surprising that all the coolant is gone and not on the ground.

I would check your oil to see if it looks like a milkshake, which definitely indicates coolant in the oil system.

You can go to O'Reilly's or AutoZone and rent a cooling system pressure test. This could help hear where a leak is coming from. Heater core is a possibility and you would notice it with a sweet smell from the coolant.

I changed my oil a couple weeks ago. Didn’t see anything unusual with the oil but decided to check the coolant anyways. The stick was bone dry. I ended up adding about a quart before it finally registered on the stick. I drove it around and checked it again the next day. Had to add about another half quart. Drove it around again and checked the following day and it was normal.
