So I bought a new Wrangler, it was a long road to ownership...
Last year I was sitting in a brand new Sahara JLU and no mater how hard I tried I couldn't get approval from the budgetary committee (single member btw who is my wife). The lease was $330 per month. I ended up leasing the new Cherokee Trailhawk (on a 2 year lease $245). I got the low mileage lease 10k a year and because I work from home was under 8k when my 1 year anniversary hit (with a year left).
I have taken every chance I could to express my desire to own a Wrangler, every time i see one coming I would wait until it drove past us and just look... Every time I saw one in a parking lot I would walk out of my way (and if my family didn't follow me would stand there looking for 10 or 15 minutes). Subscribed to and watched EVERY YouTube channel and watched in living room. Bought 75" TV so I could see the Jeeps on the screen better.
When my first year was up and we had planed for a refinance of our house next year, it came to my attention that ending my lease early and getting into a new purchase would be better to so I pitched it to the budgetary committee. I added that I was happy to wait the year and how that had given me time to reevaluate what was important in life and truly assess the Wrangler lineup and find the perfect trim level. I then proceeded to tell her that instead of a Sahara I would be purchasing a Rubicon and the Rubi would cost X amount.
I have to tell you that the committee was less than enthusiastic but said they would consider it if I would relinquish the TV back to normal programing.
So the hunt was on, and every price point was an issue. Budgetary needed the payment to be less than $400 and thought it should be a purchase.
Simple math says not going to happen. Then the suggestion was to wait until we can find one in that price range. (I am seeing that this could be a very long time... like never, they are crafty)
NOW it was on, I doubled my efforts, added screens streamed Wrangler videos EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME. I felt like a rat in a maze, ITS SUMMER TIME!!! Every Wrangler I see is an opportunity to take the top and doors off and enjoy Michigan, and these days are limited...
Then... LIGHT BULB!!
All those videos paid off... You see for smaller purchases under a $1000 I didn't need to get approval, and even purchases up to $5000 I could legitimately just ask for forgiveness. Wrangler Sport JLU??
So I went back to my Wife (the budgetary committee) and said, how about if I bring it down from 54k to 36k that is a big difference... yeah? Budgetary committee approved the idea!!
I was able to find a Wrangler for my price point and bought it on site same day I got approval on the IDEA. Down side was that I didn't have final approval to purchase. Unfortunately once you drive off the lot you cant take the dang thing back!! So we are stuck with a Wrangler Sport and a heap of empty cardboard boxes in the front of the yard on trash day and I had to sleep in the driveway for a couple of nights.
Sometimes you just have to put your foot down for the things in life that really matter.
Just closing out my second full month of ownership and I have put over 2k miles, although I didn't get my manual transmission I wanted (automatic was part of the deal) I have found a vehicle that is fun to drive!!
