So I bought a new Wrangler, it was a long road to ownership...

Last year I was sitting in a brand new Sahara JLU and no mater how hard I tried I couldn't get approval from the budgetary committee (single member btw who is my wife). The lease was $330 per month. I ended up leasing the new Cherokee Trailhawk (on a 2 year lease $245). I got the low mileage lease 10k a year and because I work from home was under 8k when my 1 year anniversary hit (with a year left).

I have taken every chance I could to express my desire to own a Wrangler, every time i see one coming I would wait until it drove past us and just look... Every time I saw one in a parking lot I would walk out of my way (and if my family didn't follow me would stand there looking for 10 or 15 minutes). Subscribed to and watched EVERY YouTube channel and watched in living room. Bought 75" TV so I could see the Jeeps on the screen better.

When my first year was up and we had planed for a refinance of our house next year, it came to my attention that ending my lease early and getting into a new purchase would be better to so I pitched it to the budgetary committee. I added that I was happy to wait the year and how that had given me time to reevaluate what was important in life and truly assess the Wrangler lineup and find the perfect trim level. I then proceeded to tell her that instead of a Sahara I would be purchasing a Rubicon and the Rubi would cost X amount.

I have to tell you that the committee was less than enthusiastic but said they would consider it if I would relinquish the TV back to normal programing.

So the hunt was on, and every price point was an issue. Budgetary needed the payment to be less than $400 and thought it should be a purchase.

Simple math says not going to happen. Then the suggestion was to wait until we can find one in that price range. (I am seeing that this could be a very long time... like never, they are crafty)

NOW it was on, I doubled my efforts, added screens streamed Wrangler videos EVERYWHERE ALL THE TIME. I felt like a rat in a maze, ITS SUMMER TIME!!! Every Wrangler I see is an opportunity to take the top and doors off and enjoy Michigan, and these days are limited...

Then... LIGHT BULB!!

All those videos paid off... You see for smaller purchases under a $1000 I didn't need to get approval, and even purchases up to $5000 I could legitimately just ask for forgiveness. Wrangler Sport JLU??

So I went back to my Wife (the budgetary committee) and said, how about if I bring it down from 54k to 36k that is a big difference... yeah? Budgetary committee approved the idea!!

I was able to find a Wrangler for my price point and bought it on site same day I got approval on the IDEA. Down side was that I didn't have final approval to purchase. Unfortunately once you drive off the lot you cant take the dang thing back!! So we are stuck with a Wrangler Sport and a heap of empty cardboard boxes in the front of the yard on trash day and I had to sleep in the driveway for a couple of nights.

Sometimes you just have to put your foot down for the things in life that really matter.

Just closing out my second full month of ownership and I have put over 2k miles, although I didn't get my manual transmission I wanted (automatic was part of the deal) I have found a vehicle that is fun to drive!!

Congrats to you!!!!! Your post was hilarious !!!! My wife ( budgetary committee) swears that I posted this under an alias.

I have tried to convince her that it was not me.

Anyway. My 20’ (she said I can say, “my”) is on order. It’s a Sahara. Cannot wait!!!!

I too have been taking pictures and stalking Jeep owners in parking lots for the past few years. This will be our.... I mean my first Jeep.

Enjoy!!!!!!!

Congrats man and well-told, very fun post!! :CWL::CWL::CWL::CWL:

Fortunately for me, my budgetary committee has no idea how to stick to her budget and spends ALL the money in the household. When I say all, I mean all- I have everything I want or need right now and haven’t spent any real discretionary income in ages. The budgetary committee is aware that she’s the reason we’re always broke (relative term, we’re actually doing fine). Therefore, when it came time to purchase my jeep, the budgetary committee was happy to approve a JLR because the committee is aware that I deserve it as the primary breadwinner of the house who spends no bread on himself.

The budgetary committee also likes Star Wars so if she read this she’d probably say “I am NOT a committee!”

I am the CFO of household and like you I rarely spend on myself. ( the occasional fly rod ) My wife, ( we will call the CEO) cause she runs the show, disperses cash like its confetti at a parade. So when I became fixated on a Jeep , I told her I was considering trading her Outback for it , and she thought I was joking. I negotiated with a dealer 150 miles from here ,over the course of a week, and finally settled on a price. I got up one morning and told her I was going fishing in New Hampshire for the day. I took the Outback and came home with the Jeep. Well the CEO wanted to fire me , boot me off the board of directors , and liquidate the company ! She was fu#%in livid ! A week into driving her new Jeep , she says to me : " cars never meant anything to me ,I never understood your obsession with them, and now , every time I get into the jeep , it makes me happy " Jeeps are magical bastards aren't they ? I dont get to drive ours ( hers ) much, but I love it when I do , and it brightens the hell out of the driveway !

I am both the CEO and CFO but I have heavy oversight, and I am a better man for it. My Wife is friken awesome, and one hell of cook!!

As awesome as she is, I am almost positive that she wanted to fire me the day I came home with my Wrangler.

The byproduct of this whole deal is that she now says that she gets what ever vehicle she wants when her lease is up next year. She has announced that she will be picking out a Gladiator. She said that there was NOTHING I could say about it. Now I did what every good husband would do and got behind her with her choice and plan on supporting it 100%.

Y'all have some interesting stories. Gots me counting my lucky stars for my better half saying yes (both to marrying me and to the Jeep). Her only condition was that it HAD to be a Rubicon (who am I to argue with my better half?). :champagne:

Oh my wife is not complaining. She is very much looking forward to the Jeep. It’s just been a long road to get here. We have been talking about it and visiting lots and talking with Jeep owners every chance we get for the past 2.5 - 3 years.

Congrats!! I’m about two months in myself. The CEO/CFO (wife) did NOT want me to trade in my FJ Cruiser for a Jeep. So she gave me an impossibly low monthly payment number - unachievable.

She forgot who she was dealing with.

does the budget committee know you are going to spend upwards $15K-$20k on future happy mods on?

i’m happily single. bought my JLR. traded in a vehicle that i owed more than trade in value. it’s been 2 months for me as well. i love every second of it. i do have my dream build planned out. just saving for it.

congrats on your JL Sport ever loved wanted perfection.

now just say because you had sacrifice to automatic, you NEED a lift n wheels n tires. you can state the RUBI was stock on that, but your lift will be 4” n you get 37’s. its the sacrifice the budget committee MUST agree on. then kiss your free time away. bust your ass. change the tv visuals to their needs n enjoy!!

win win. or at least the beginning.
