I’m looking at the Black Rhino Kelso wheels and they come in either a 0 or -18 offset. I have looked at comparisons like www.tiresize.com but still can’t make a decision. Anyone running a similar width/offset on their wheels?

I was looking at offsets this morning. Depends on how far out you want the tires to stick out. I like my tires tucked close to stock.

Offset affects handling. Backspace regards clearance.

Ideally we could the prioritize the offset factor, but clearance issues are somewhat inflexible.

The 0mm offset version of that particular wheel is listed as having 5.0 inch backsapce, while the -18mm is listed as 4.29 inch.

You will probably want to consider what tire size you may install, and determine if the 5 inch is too much backspace for your intended use.
If you had no clearance issues to be concerned with, then the 0 offset will probably provide a more natural steering feel.
If you want to run large tires and or a highly articulate lift, you will probably need to use less backspace than 5 inches to prevent rubbing issues.

Which you choose is mostly a factor of what lift you have or will install. -18 will be compatible with most any lift out there without clearance issues. There’s no other practical reason for such a negative offset unless you like the wheels to poke out aggressively from the fenders. However, the 0 offset will work fine with many lifts also. If you don’t have or plan to have a lift, the 0 offset will poke out from the fenders less. About 3/4” less than the -18 wheels.

What he said^^ and since you have the wider Rubicon axles those zero offset wheels will work well. AEV has +25 offset wheels that work fine on stock Rubicons so going that zero will allow for quite a bit of lift if you go that route at a later date. -18s might make the difference between fine or wounded on trails like these~

I see you have a 2018 Rubicon. Is it lifted, or do you plan on one? And what size tires would be going with this offset?

Here's a 17x9 wrapped in 38x13.5's with a -12mm offset and 4.53" of backspace. Every 6mm equals roughly 1/4".

it will be going on a 2021 Rubicon JLU with 37x12.5x17 BFG KO2 tires. Since they run a little small I may not need a lift initially just on road. I have the same on my gladiator with no lift but 17x8 +30 offset wheels.

If there's any chance you might go with a lift, the 0 offset will work well with most options. The -18 would be better if looking to maximize articulation with flexier lifts like Metalcloak and Rock Krawler. Just trying to help you avoid any future offset regret.

Thanks! If anything I would see maybe a 2” lift or so. Nothing too extreme.

And here are the same tires with Dirty Life 17x9 -37mm offset and 3.5” of backspace.
There’s not a huge difference. Just go with the -18mm offset wheels.
