Living in Tiburon, you can’t escape the siren call of the road. On one side, the sweep of US-1 up through Muir Beach, Stinson, and the roller-coaster ribbon of highway along the cliffs. On the other, the open invitations of Napa and Sonoma, where the roads coil like corkscrews between vineyards.
When I first took my 2-door JL Sport on these drives, it was… let’s just say “nautical.” Every sharp bend felt like I was captaining a tall ship in a gale—leaning, swaying, hanging on for dear life.
Then came the transformation:
Now, I aim for those sharp switchbacks near Mt. Tam or the fast sweepers through the vineyards just for fun. Next on my list: Michelin Defender LTX M/S2 for a tighter tire feel, and a steering stabilizer to keep things arrow-straight on 101 when the semis blow by.
I started with a trail-ready Jeep. Now it’s a Tiburon canyon-carver with a taste for wine country. And every time I drop the top and take the long way home, I remember why I made these changes—because life’s too short to let the corners boss you around.

Then came the transformation:
- Hellwig 7775 rear sway bar: suddenly my Jeep stood tall and took corners like it meant it. No more slow-motion lean through the roundabout in Mill Valley.
- Fox Performance 2.0 shocks: kept the body settled, absorbing the dips and crests on the backroads to Sonoma without that “pogo stick” rebound.
- Bestop Trektop: because nothing says “freedom” like winding up Highway 121 into Carneros with the wind in your hair and the sun on your face.
