Yay. the worst of both worlds. if Scout can pull off what they say, they are going to pummel jeep in the off-road world.
Haha. I know I'm in the super minority here and its not a red line for most folks, but as awesome as Scout looks on paper, ultimately I'm like: doors don't come off? Nope!

Jeep, there’s only one. I remember the old Scouts and even Scout II, they were solid but I still am a Jeep loyalist at the end of the day.

I saw 2 of the all electric Recons doing durability testing in sand hollow. It apparently the durability wasn’t that good.

looks like a damn bronco

Where is the public demand for a range extender (gas engine generator) EV? The Ram 1500 has one (no longer called Ramcharger) and Wagoneer offers one. Nearly zero public interest, or automotive press coverage. REPBs are a last minute attempt to make EV trucks and SUVs, which have quickly fallen out of favor, more appealing. The future of EVs is more fitting for economy cars than it is for trucks and SUVs.
the entire point of evs was to build tiny commuter vehicles such as those popular in europe or japan. putting them in giant suvs/trucks was just hilariously wasteful to begin with

They can, but then both are compromised. I've read reviews that the new gas Charger has an unusually high floor, making the seating a bit weird. Of course, the floor is that high because its meant to have a battery below it.
The Charger will be a big failure.
Especially if you compare it to the popularity of the two cars it replaced.
How many could see this coming a mile away…

Will be 😂 Dodge sold 1912 Chargers over Q1 and only 240 of them were powered by batteries. …… electric Charger sales figure represents only 12.5% of the total sales over that period.

For reference between 2012 and 2023 Dodge sold over 20,000 Chargers in the first quarter of the year 10 times.
Last year the automaker sold just 4,642 total.

May I add the new Chargers replaced both the Charger and the Challenger. So add Challenger numbers to Charger numbers for the true difference.

….. It’s not just Charger that had a rough first quarter, Jeep’s Wagoneer S electric SUV sold only 175 units.

And let’s not forget about the 300. Wasn’t there supposed to have been an EV only version of it, like the original plan for the Charger 🤪🤪Person that was in charge of these decisions probably got a huge promotion.

Styling appears to be a half-hearted attempt to abridge the Defender & Bronco, by someone without any critically acclaimed design success in the market they’re aiming for.

I like both the idea of an upmarket wrangler (Sahara trims on up), as well as an upmarket wrangler alternative, but there is far too much Bronco-styling, as well as some of the wider modern Toyota silhouettes here. Not pretty enough, or “golden ratio” overall silhouette to go THAT far upmarket. Options will quickly take these north of $80k, where the gorgeous Defender & others will scoff at it.

Wrangler will still be the king of its lane, and the recon certainly won’t eat into Wrangler sales hardly at all … nor will it eat into Defender/luxury sales as much as whoever sold Stellantis on this fail quest, wanted badly to imagine it would. With all its problems, Defender still is the best looking “off road capable” truly luxury SUV on the market.

Luxury market requires more refined styling and aesthetics, more dignity and esteemed grace, not just some samey copypasta collage that doesn’t match. and I say this as a dude that has owned 4 of the best looking, timeless, nearly 6-figure 8-cylinder flagship European sedans. As well as prior to those, the highest end trim and sport package, on Cadillac’s luxury 8-cylinder flagship sedan. This Recon is an ugly chubby rich idiot scammer’s daughter, who bought her way into a pageant where she is getting universally laughed at.

as for it having an ICE engine option, of course that is a very welcome sign.

A smallish domestic Cummins diesel option in a luxury upmarket alternative, as well as in the upmarket wrangler trims, would be even more of a welcome sign. Especially without all the misguided federal requirements from past decades choking it to death.

Promoted out the door, but not until after massive damage was done. See page 1 post 11. ….

I don't get it. It's just a pure ICE variant? What on Earth is the point of that?

For all of the 4xe shenanigans that have happened, I do in fact like the powertrain. I find electric-only quite enjoyable off highway. And I like the combined power on highway. So much so, in fact, that if we were talking more like a range extender for the Recon I might actually consider it (I am genuinely embarrassed to even say that).
Exactly. There is no point in it.

WHY do they want two Jeeps, at the same price point, same size, removable doors, removable/open top, same engine/transmission, lots of accessories, etc. etc. in the same showrooms?? That’s just stupid. I get that the Wrangler is going away in Europe and Recon is replacing it due to safety requirements, but the U.S. isn’t Europe. We get to keep Wrangler, for now, and Recon NEEDS to be separated totally….hence the electric powertrain.

Rivian has the R2, Scout is nearly here with the Traveler, and Jeep needs the BEV Recon to do very well and compete in that segment. After putting 7,000 miles on an F-150 Lightning I realized just how great a good EV powertrain is and how much $$$ it does save a person and I would be first in line for a Jeep Recon IF and only if it’s fully electric. If they only do the 2.0T, no sale!

It's possible it is a transition away from solid axle front ends. They prove with this that more people want IFS then they fade out the solid axle.

Ford has already proven that. They sold almost 150k Broncos last year, and claim that they outsold Jeep in April 2026 for the first time. Most buyers clearly don't care what suspension is under their rig.

Yeah, I have been wondering if the JL will be the end of the solid axle jeep. Maybe they will do something like most wranglers are IFS except for Rubicons? Maybe?
