lol! so the Barracks the younger Marines were living in when I retired were almost small studio apartments, and much nicer than what I stayed in when I was a PFC. I'm pretty sure there was asbestos everywhere...

I can remember when I was at my first duty station (IMEF, CampPen) they started putting phone lines into the rooms. Then a month or two later, cable drops. Life changers.

I never paid for either as I was always away... I had my motorola cell phone that I think ran close to a dollar a minute. And the battery would only run for about 3-4 hours.

Anyway.... I try to not think about barrack life. I had a roommate that was into fat chicks -- I can confirm that PTSD is real folks!

Good morning guys... Happy to report that I slept a little over 7 hours straight through... man I feel good!!! I wasn't sleeping well for the past week -- major insomnia. It's almost 6 in the morning here... about to make another cup of coffee. Not a huge fan of the k-cup bit, but it works (nesspresso is better but $$$).

Well, not to get extreme...but, I did serve under some senior NCOs that had been in places like Guadalcanal and Tarawa. We still were practicing climbing cargo nets. Quonsets? Yup..boot camp, ITR, Electronics Schools, Staging BN, Casual Co. Nicest billet I ever was in was at Balboa Naval Hospital.

Yes, Bragging camp is going well, thanks. I'll brag all day about surviving that "misspent youth", as Smedley Butler put it.

Ah yeah the Quonset huts are still up at SOI, just some basic plywood construction so they can technically say they had shelter for you...

I spent many a night in just a sleeping bag, praying for clear weather, but getting rain instead...

Also... the desert areas get pretty damn cold in the winter at night...

Was looking for the wife's phone to get a picture of it in place with cord from the center console.

Damn. That’s a lot of snow at once. Lake effect much?

I went to go get the pictures I took while there, but then remembered they are all Kodak and not scanned.

I had frost bite that day walking back from a buddy's mobile home park. Looked like a flat field and he had to climb out of a window to crawl up to the roof to get the snow off before it collapsed. The roads had been cut out and there were 8' walls on either side.

Crazy. Almost like the towns out in the mountains.
