Ready to pull the trigger on a 2020 Rubicon, I see there are different tire options but the Jeep site is not updated for 2020 yet. Assuming the tire choices are the same as last year, what does everyone recommend? I won't be doing a ton of off roading but also plan to upgrade to 35's immediately with an AEV lift.

The tire choice is the only item left on my order sheet that I haven't finalized.

I love quietpeen's response above!

I would go with the AT (All-Terrain) option instead of the MT (Mud Terrain), with black sidewall out. That is what I did on my 2020 JLRU order.

I see standard as 285/70r17 bsw for Rubicon
When I placed my order on 7/5 I had 2 options, white letter out BFG KO2, or the black letter out Falcon M/T.

I went with the Falcon as I had a lot of chunking with my KO2's on my 2019. They were shredded after a few trips with sharp rocks etc. I plan to swap out anyways, but wanted to give the falcon a chance until then to compare myself. I can always pick up a set of KO2 takeoffs if I need them for cheap.

The internal document posted in the "What is new for 2020" thread shows that the standard tire for the 2020 Rubicon is now 255/75r17 BSW AT. If you do not make a selection, this is what you will get.

The optional tires are:

285/70r17 BSW MT
285/70r17 OWL AT

So people who did not select an optional tire will be surprised with a smaller tire than expected due to the change.

There is always the possibility that the document is incorrect, however I selected an optional tire just to make certain.

Like me being surprised with a Red Dash on my Punk'n 2020 JLUR lol. Even my dealer was not aware that was going to happen and are helping to see why it is on my build sheet as optional equipment. I am glad I went with the M/T, would be upset to go pick it up and see a set of 32s on it.

I would have been upset about the 32s as well. Only time will tell if it is correct or not.

I currently have a Punk'n JLUR and it has the grey dash. I don't think red would look right. I have a Hella Yella JLUR on order, it usually comes with the grey dash. For me, I hope they did make the switch. I think the red and yellow would look good. Sort of like ketchup and mustard or McDonalds lol

The document also showed Rubicons getting LEDs as standard which I have confirmed with Jeep to be incorrect.

My 2019 Punk'n also had the Grey dash, and I agree that I don't think the red will look right. I looked at a JL with the red dash parked next to my 2019 Punk'n and even seeing the colors close looked bad.

While it is not that big of an issue to swap, it is another expense and hassle I don't really want to deal with. For the Red dash to show as optional equipment on my build sheet shows that something is messed up. My dealers system, and my actual order have nothing to indicate an optional red dash.

I saw that document but did you notice how it says ā€˜Rubicon (Sport S +)? And also how they’re M/T? That’s why I’m not going by that at all for the options. I’m not sure if that’s some international/US combined release but I’m confident with the US buyers guide which has:

LT 285/70/r17c BSW off-road tires as the standard Rubicon tires. Plus the two options you mentioned.

To add I was also confused about that and ordered the OWL off-road version (even though I really didn’t want outside white lettering) until Mark from Fitzpatrick’s called me to double check if I really wanted OWL. He confirmed that the standard tire option is the same as 2019.

I placed my order on 7/24 with the standard tire choice. I just don't understand why they would go with a smaller tire on the Rubicon.

I'm probably going to go with OWL tires myself, if I go this route. I'm already used to how they look on my JK lol :)
