That was for 1000 feet, and it can get much cheaper for a shorter run and using a smaller gauge wire.

I'm pretty sure Solar is more expensive. Plus you'll still need to run the electrical service from your solar farm to where you need it.

Edit: a more realistic run of 120 feet would be more like $2500, give or take. Depending on the wire needed.

I assumed 1,000 feet not knowing how far back from the road the house would be.

Solar would make sense in the long run if you can sell the power back to Duke Energy, which would still necessitate running a service line. You'd have to crunch the numbers on how long it would take you to break even with the panels. That would be a fun little study.

Oh yeah I'm not against going with solar panels, Its just a good expense up front.
