I always use a bigger slot and see if the sleeve comes off or not. If it doesn't, then I go the next size smaller. That's about all I can tell ya for this.
Yah, that's how I do it, too. :like:

What gauge was the 40amp wire you used? Just curious if it matches at all. I swear the wires are much smaller than the amp rating. No proof, just gut feel. You'd have to put an actual wire gauge on one to sort it out.
More interesting would be to take a sample of these wires and run the rated current through them to see what would happen.

Unless I'm doing house wiring, then I know it's a 12 and use the 12 slot. I almost never use 14awg in the house even tho it's plenty for average outlets. I always run 12-3 wire and 20 amp breakers. Weekend warrior! but during the week too. lol

Alright, job interview with Target. I dont know why a former employee in good standing has to interview. Maybe its a formality.

My strippers say they're 16awg. When I tried 18 it was easier to strip off the insulation but it also took a few strands off.

The wire just slipped right through the 14awg slot.

Sounds like a good argument for solar...
That was for 1000 feet, and it can get much cheaper for a shorter run and using a smaller gauge wire.

I'm pretty sure Solar is more expensive. Plus you'll still need to run the electrical service from your solar farm to where you need it.

Edit: a more realistic run of 120 feet would be more like $2500, give or take. Depending on the wire needed.
