Put these bad boys on finally. Took a while to get them prepped/cleaned and painted, as it's been super cold and wet here lately. The Sport diff covers have the M logo on the side, so I put a lil somethin extra on the middle. I hope it holds (it's metal and had gray VHB on it at least and I clearcoated on top of that).
On the paint job, it looks like the clear coat turned the blue a bit darker than when I first painted it. Oh well - I could retouch it I suppose, but it would be a PITA... FWIW, I used nail polish from my daughter's collection.
The install wasn't too bad, but damn I wish I had a 3/8" to 12pt 5/16" socket for my right angle cordless ratchet. I was able to get them off quickly at least (had a 10mm 3/8" socket) but it took a while to get them all tight again. Wasn't too messy, but wore latex gloves and had a good catch pan underneath. The smell though, ohhhh, I remember that smell last time I did diffs...
I think the front M186 took more than 1.1qts like the OM says, probably because the Motobilt cover has a bit more volume. The rear took about 2qts though, which is what the OM said it would. I just filled till they began to overflow though, and didn't really measure that closely.
There were a TON of metal shavings and metal powder stuck to the magnetic drain plugs. I was sure to clean those up, but I would say EVERYONE should drain and clean and refill these diffs, even if they don't get a new diff cover.
In my case, the seals both came off, but it was easy to get them back on using a bolt to hold it in place while you re-install the diff covers. I did clean them up good before I re-installed them.
