I wonder how hard it would be to add remote start to a Sport S?

On my F-150 I just traded in, their system was set up in a way that made adding factory remote start to a truck that didn't come with it an easy job. Literally 15 minutes. You basically connected the antenna, programmed the new key, then turned it on in the vehicle computer.

What are the odds of a simple factory add on for JL like this?

Easy for the dealer to do. You need kit and the 2 new fobs programmed. Figure around $500 for the kit to include dealer installing.

Go for the dealer install versus your local business that does remote start kits.

I was told by my dealer that the firmware for the fob programming wasn't out yet.

Geeez, I find that very hard to believe. Sounds a bit strange to me. I'd ask another dealer(s).

I'd spend up to $200 for a factory add-on that integrates into my existing keyless entry system.

Any more than that and I'd just go aftermarket for the added features and range.

Well, no way are you going to get OEM Remote Start and have it installed by dealer for only $200.
Again, more like $500.00-.

As for aftermarket Remote Start with today's Wrangler. Would not have it on my vehicle if YOU paid for it. No way.

I asked for factory or an aftermarket system that integrated into the factory fob. They said they couldn't program the fobs yet. But aftermarket was coming soon, to press the lock button 3 times to remote start

I dont need heated seats my jeep is always in the garage at home but would like the remote start. If get just the remote start its like 491 and for another 300 you get the heated seats in the cold weather package. so should i just go ahead and get the whole package for another 300 ?

I'm surprised that FatBoy hasn't crapped all over the factory remote start system. Usually if it says Mopar on the box, he hates it. Lol.

Truth is, I've had both and there are pluses and minuses to both.

Factory = Usually integrates with existing wiring requiring no splices. Has the ability to automatically turn on the A/C if you remote start in summer, or the heat if you remote start in winter.

Aftermarket = Far less expensive. Far more range. More features available through the fob. One that I especially love is the "pit stop" feature that allows you to leave the engine running to keep the vehicle cool and take the keys with you when you run inside a convenience store to grab a soda. But there are lots of features that factory systems just simply don't offer.

On my JK we added a alarm to it and it tied in to make existing features on the JK work with remote key now on my JK. My alarm guy told me I can do the same thing on the JL when I get it I don't have to walk around with two remotes. I want a good aftermarket alarm where if they hit the window the motion sensor goes off or shock sensor or glass breakage unlike the factory alarm won't go off until you open the door and that's only a horn. For about $300 it's worth investing trying to slowing down a little bit and maybe keep them from breaking in if they see a real alarm light flashing. You never know when you're going to have something left in there valuable by mistake or have it stolen to go strip yes insurance we all have it but your rates go up high and sometimes things aren't replaceable or you don't get everything covered for all your extra hours

I'd like to know also. Is there a Mopar remote start kit offered for JL yet?
